This hotel is a wonderful place to stay before visiting the Naoshima Island. I stayed in the dormsection, which was supernice! The rooms and beds are so comfortable, and you will find all the facilities you need, including an in-house restaurant with superb fresh oysters🥳🦪🌊 The staff are very helpful and friendly, and made my stay a total bliss. This Hotel directly above the Hiroshima station was luxurious, quiet and extraordinary. The service orientation was worldclass, the rooms outstanding and the price still affordable. The strategic location made it possible to come from Kyoto in the morning, leave the luggage there, see Miyajima and Hiroshima in one day, stay there overnight and use the first Shinkansen up north in the next morning. And indulge in affordable luxury in between.

A compact city that is easily walked.

A compact city that is easily walked. Not that much to see, but a quieter pace of life. Excellent parks and Art museum. We came to see the memorial and the dome, of course, but in fact Tokyo lost more than 100,000 lives in the firebombing during WW2 in just one night.

It isn’t a typical tourist destination from my understanding but the gardens by night are absolutely stunning. The casual is also beautiful and I’m sad to have missed the pottery class. Food and bars also exceptional - everybody is particularly friendly, and perhaps less used to accommodating tourists. Coffee: Empire coffee roasters. Friendly service and outstanding coffee. Food: Hidaya Yanigamachi. Grill your own delicious meat. Drink: ichigin. Super friendly and will involve you in conversations even if you don’t speak Japanese.

Only spent one day at the end of our trip which was enough...

Only spent one day at the end of our trip which was enough to basically shop and wander the historical area which I think is the main attraction anyway. Beautiful, scenic, clean, historic. And we loved Yoshii Ryokan in the heart of it all. Definitely worth a visit.

The town itself is nice but not too special.

The town itself is nice but not too special. Plenty of good places to eat and many shops, but the main attraction is the startof the Shimanami Kaido bike route of course, it is gorgeous and highly recommended!

We found Matsue very walkable, the people were so friendly, and the city was a peaceful change from the larger cities. We also found a wonderful daytrip from there--Yuushien Garden was an inspiring spot, and the bus trip there and back was so interesting. We visited in early October, and also got to enjoy the Matsue Water Lantern Festival.

The main reasson to visit was the Itsukushima Shrine but there was plenty of other shrines and temples to visit. The ropeway to Mt, Misen was great. The hike down not so much (not a trail, mainly steps - hard on the knees.

Tottori is the Sand Museum (closes January 5, the sculptors, real world wide artists) come in, the Museum opens for Japanese Golden week. We have been going there every year, since 2013. Always staying at the APA hotel, Ekimai.

Silent small town, just next to the station you have castle, not that frequently operating local trains from this station. To reach Hiroshima I had to take a bus and could not find local trains. Shinkansen is available, so those who dont worry about Shinkansen prices then it is super easy.

Quiet area and comfy bedding ,a good base for the ferry to Naoshima. There is access to kitchen facilities which is useful as breakfast and evening meal was not available when we were there ,we should have stopped at the Family Mart on the way there . Very good value for money. Helpful host

I loved touring Hiroshima Castle and the Peace Memorial Museum. The history is very rich and enlightening. If I had more time, I would have looked for other things to do in Hiroshima and tried more of the cuisine.
