Great location for the walk up Adams Peak. The staff were very helpful with a good local place to eat and timings on when to start walking. Also great breakfast in the morning and they allowed for a slightly later check out which wasn’t needed but good to know.

I liked many things about Nuga Retreat. First of all, the beautiful, natural surroundings with mountain views created a unique atmosphere of peace and relaxation. We only stayed one night as we were passing through Nuwara Eliya, but we would have happily stayed longer. The hotel is lovely, and the buffet evening meal was our favourite throughout our whole trip. It was my wife's birthday whilst we were there, and the hotel staff organised a birthday cake at short notice which was greatly appreciated.

What a privilege it was to stay in such a wonderful old colonial hotel. We loved the fading grandeur. Wonderful rooms, overlooking the splendid gardens. Very comfortable bed. Besides doing the incredibly beautiful hike to Adams Peak, you can hire a tuktuk driver to guide you to Morey's Waterfall. the best waterfall we got to hike to in Sri lanka, challenging 1 hour hike but you'll get to stroll thru lush tea plantations and walk along side Lake Morey.

If you are into budget travel and want a genuine local...

If you are into budget travel and want a genuine local experience, NanuOya is a good town to visit. It’s very close to the main tourist town Nuwara Eliya (approx 9km away) and has buses heading there every 20mins. You can also get there by train. The locals are very helpful and kind. You get a few places to eat food like South Indian dishes and koththu and a few places to buy liquor from. There are two waterfalls and the larger, wider one located inside the Glassough tea estate is a place where you can bathe in on a sunny day. It’s a lovely little town surrounded by tea estates!

Do not climb on Saturdays as you will most probably not be...

Do not climb on Saturdays as you will most probably not be able to reach the top. It was over-crowded and the path is narrow the last 500 meters. Got stuck in one spot for 45 minutes and decided to turn around. Still got amazing views though and the experience of local pilgrimage which was a privilege!

Maskeliya is a market town which could be lot more .The hilly terrain is a planners dream. I imagine the buildings painted pastal pink and yellow, flower pots hanging from the eves, it could be a destination rather than a quick stop to buy supplies on the way to elsewhere as is now.

Temperatures can drop below 10°C at night, and rain showers are common even during sunny days. Before traveling, it’s best to: Check the weather forecast for rain, fog, or sudden temperature drops. Pack warm clothing, as evenings and mornings can be chilly. Carry an umbrella or light raincoat, since showers are frequent.
