This is one of the few resorts I’ve been to where you get an up close and personal interaction with nature. My villa overlooked beautiful forest land all around me, and the pathways leading up to the villa and reception were so immersive. Most of all, they built a lot of anticipation about what the villa would like the first time I walked up because they are so well hidden from pathways and the other villas. The staff were so helpful in attending to all my needs, and service was constantly with a smile. The manager checked in with me before my stay to see if I had any special requests, which I’ve rarely experienced elsewhere. The food is incredible! I was worried about the spice levels in the food because I don’t handle it so well, but they made sure to tame it down for me, and it was great! It was wonderful to see how happy they were for me to try local cuisine, and with the taste, there’s no reason not to. The villa itself was bigger than any hotel I’ve ever been to. I enjoyed lovely Sri Lankan tea in my private living room and got to experience nature from my villa. We went on a guided rock tour, which was great to soak in the views of the property and the surroundings. We even saw Sigiriya Lion Rock from up there. All in all, I would highly recommend staying here. The villas are tastefully designed and spacious, the food is just mouthwatering, and the staff are amicable and attentive. Everything about this property was outstanding - the staff and the service , the room which was spacious with comfortable and huge bed , plunge pool and overlooking greenery , spacious and huge bathroom . We had booked the stay which included their Ayurvedic doctor and treatment and it was heavenly. Top notch quality and very peaceful. Note that the Ayurvedic Center closes at 4pm and rightly so. Would advice to choose full board ( breakfast , lunch and dinner) and opt for Ayurvedic food ( if you prefer vegetarian) . The food was clean , light , local and tasty. We also saw a peacock in the morning right beside our room. The team also provided us very good tips on the time we should visit the lion rock ( for sunrise to avoid crowds) and helped us book a safari to the Kaudulla national park which was one of the highlights of our stay. The property is built on over 70 acres and gives you the green , lush, expansive feel. Thank you to the staff - Chandana ( manager) , praveen , Hasitana ( the chef) and the two people who served breakfast. Everyone serves with a smile and a peaceful demeanour . I had also shared that it was my partners birthday ( a few hours before arriving) and they had made such nice birthday arrangements ( balloons , cake , room decor ). I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya.
I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya. And no wonder such a wonderful World Heritage Site kept popping up everywhere: Test it against the massive old fortress, the gorgeous frescoes, and images taken of landscapes from the summit, and there you’ll pick one of Sri Lanka’s greatest treasures. Not an easy or casual climb but certainly one that throws panoramic views so very far worth it and lucid into history at every step. Water gardens at the bottom quite worth a visit. One has to get there at dawn to avoid numerous tourists and scorching sun. Thus, in general, Sigiriya is a combination of artistic creation, engineering work of antiquity, and a miracle of nature, and a must-see site in Sri Lanka.Guest review byShironSri Lanka - 10.0

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.Guest review byHazelIreland - 10.0

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time.
