Everything was great. The host is friendly and very helpful! The place is clean and the location is excellent, middle of the jungle, 5 minutes walk from lions rock. We arrived in the middle of the night and the property owner was so helpful and nice and waited for us. They made us Sri Lanka breakfast and coffee in the morning :) The rooms are simple and clean, the AC works, the pool is clean. You can hear many birds in the morning and it’s a full jungle experience. We had a late flight and the check out was late which was also no problem!

The hotel was awesome! First we were welcomed with refreshing wipes and nice juices. They also made some kind of nice ritual with candles. Then we went to our room,which was so big,clean and comfy. Also we had a bathtub on the balcony. There was super big mango garden,where you can take walks and you can visit the nearby lake. There were several activities like big beautiful chess and ping pong. The food was a great combination of traditional and international food. It had great presentation and was delicious. The best thing in this hotel was THE STAFF. Everyone was so nice, always there to help you and assist. They were always smiling. We loved the manager,the cleaning ladies,all the girls from reception and restaurant. So nice! We reallyliked a girl named Sachini, which was mainly on the ba, she was super nice. My personal favorite one though was the NATURALIST!!! Her name was Sithumi. We definitely recomend going on the safari tour with her. She was so so so nice,always helping out and she knew so much about all animals! She saw birds for maybe 2 seconds and already knew the kind! So impressive! She was caring for all of us so much! Definitely recomend this hotel and we would love to come back❤️

A huge thank you to Niroshan, who truly went above and beyond for us. He helped us plan our days, suggested things to do, arranged everything we needed, and was always checking in to make sure we were having the best possible stay. His dedication and patience made our trip effortless. But it wasn’t just them — every single staff member we met was phenomenal. The housekeeping team, the restaurant staff, the front office, and everyone behind the scenes — every one of them greeted us with a smile, asked how our day was going, and made us feel like valued guests. Their warmth was so genuine, and it was clear they take real pride in their work. The villa itself was stunning — beautifully designed, spotless, and peaceful — but it was the people who made the experience truly special. Their professionalism, kindness, and positive energy turned a beautiful holiday into an unforgettable one. Liya Water Villas is more than just a place to stay; it’s a place where you’re cared for. We spent the first two nights of our holiday to Sri Lanka and it was a incredible start. We received a warm welcome, with a welcome drink, flowers, snacks and a cold towel. The incredible service continued for the rest of the stay, Upali who looked after us was a credit to the hotel. The food in the restaurant, as well as the cocktails in the bar were fantastic. The rice and curry was one of the best we have had in our whole holiday. The location is perfect for visiting the Sigiriya attractions, and tuk tuks can be arranged to take you wherever needed. The paddy dwelling was incredibly peaceful and equipped with everything needed for your stay. We also enjoyed walking around the hotel grounds and visiting their farm, as well as watching the local wildlife including wondeful bird life and monkeys.

We stayed in a two-bedroom villa which was absolutely stunning — spacious, private and beautifully designed, with views that made it hard to leave. The setting itself is incredible, with the water and landscape creating a calm, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent throughout our stay, and a special mention must go to Madushan, who looked after us at every meal. His attention to detail and genuine warmth really stood out. Our butler, Dilmith, was equally fantastic — he quietly organised everything for us, including our spa sessions which were superb. Nothing was ever too much trouble. All in all, it was one of those rare places that manages to combine luxury with real heart. We left feeling properly rested and already talking about when we might come back.

We had a wonderful time while staying at this beautiful gem retreat hidden in the forest. First off, a sincere thank you to the staff and manager Nimal at Wild Grass for accommodating our late arrival in the evening and dinner arrangement. The hospitality of the staff is beyond our expectation. The Villa we stayed was contemporary, modern and spacious with surrounding glass interiors that let us feel so close to nature. Since the time we arrived there, the staff attended to all our requirements instantly. The service was just outstanding and the food was very tasty. We were so sad that we didn’t have time to extend our stay at this resort by a few more nights, but we will undoubtedly return for a longer stay the next time. Such a beautiful, serene, and peaceful setting for a vacation.

We stay there 3 nights and it was amazing experience. All the staff was very kind, always taking care of all the details, it was our honeymoon and they give us a cake for dessert on our first meal. Our flight arrived in the middle of the night and we arrived at the hotel at 5:00AM and they prepare our room and allow us to do the check in earlier. It was super comfortable. Everything was excellent. Wonderful food with so many varieties, especially on weekends. On Sunday there was a nice concert during the dinner. Beautiful view, nice swimming pool. The area was beautiful and clean. They also offer free bikes.

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but...

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but purely for the iconic Sigiriya Rock—and it was absolutely worth it. The experience was incredible, with stunning views from the top. My friends and I climbed up for sunrise, which I highly recommend as the best time to go. Just be prepared: there are a lot of stairs—some carved directly into the rock, others metal and uneven. We visited in November just after the monsoon, so it was warm and the climb had us sweating buckets. If you plan on taking those perfect social-media photos, bring a spare T-shirt… or do what I did and let AI handle the magic! Although the ascent was tough and left us literally out of breath, the moment we reached the top made it all worth it. The views were truly breathtaking—quite fitting, since the climb already took my breath away.

The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, providing a perfect space to relax after exploring Dambulla. The hotel’s atmosphere is peaceful and charming, with a great balance between modern comfort and natural surroundings. The food was delicious and freshly prepared, and I truly appreciated the attention to detail in every aspect of the service. A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Even on cloudy forecasts do not visit as all mointain tops then will be covered and you will not see the sights. when it is humid leaches also will be active and will become a painful experience.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time. Generally Matele was quit good tourist destination if it is planned well with couple of days.

The weather is very calm.

The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy,...

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.
