A wonderful place that was so calm and relaxing! The venue was amazing, the pools breathtaking and the personell was so kind and helpful. The stairs was no problem at all, and the personell always made sure you could take the elevator if you wanted to!

I recently stayed at Swell Shacks for one night and had an amazing experience. The hotel was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The design of the hotel is simply stunning and perfectly complements the beautiful environment. I loved waking up to the sound of the ocean and having the beach right in front of our room. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The breakfast provided was delicious and offered a variety of options. The view from the hotel is absolutely stunning, offering breathtaking sights. I had such a wonderful time that I will definitely be coming back in the future. I highly recommend Swell Shacks for anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable stay. Special mention for Gayantha and Madushanka, always smiling, very welcoming and helpful, they definitely make our stay even better 😃 !

Beautifully furnished room with a nice bathroom that offers a great rain shower with hot water. The swimming pool is very inviting and the staff was exceptionally helpful, very accommodating, and friendly. We enjoyed the rich breakfast very much. The location is close to the beach. Only positive words for this hotel. This hotel is only 7 months old and it exceeded all of our expectations. Room was spacious and we loved the design. They had an amazing pool with a lovely garden view. Staff was extremely helpful, they even made us custom breakfast and let us have a late checkout for free. The hotel manager Sandunmalh was very professional.

Absolutely the Best Way to Explore the Sinharaja Rainforest! This was our favourite place we stayed on Sri Lanka trip. This eco-lodge is hands down the ultimate way to experience the magic of the Sinharaja Rainforest. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear you’re in for something extraordinary. The location is beyond words—completely surrounded by lush rainforests, making you feel truly immersed in nature. It is so peaceful and quite - no noise from roads, traffic etc. The staff made our entire stay seamless and stress-free. They have a convenient car park in the nearby village, where they meet you and transfer you up to the lodge in a 4x4—what a fun start to the adventure! We stayed for two nights (but would have happily stayed a 3rd). The accommodation is spectacular. Large windows on every side of the room allow you to feel like you’re right in the heart of the jungle. Waking up to the incredible sounds of the rainforest was unforgettable, and we even spotted monkeys and exotic birds right in our room! Amazingly, you also get wifi in your room. The staff were outstanding, from the friendly restaurant team to the knowledgeable guides. On arrival, the Duty Manager, Mithun, warmly welcomed us, explained all the details about meal times, and helped us plan treks into the rainforest. They offer a variety of treks and provide you with a guide. They are also pretty flexible, We wanted a longer trek to explore more of the jungle and this wasn't a problem. The trek itself was a dream. We spotted an incredible variety of wildlife, including lizards, snakes, and a stunning array of Sri Lankan birds. The guides were so knowledgeable and enhanced the experience. Overall, this was incredible value for money. Running such a well-maintained eco-lodge in the middle of the rainforest can’t be easy, yet they make it feel effortless. If you’re looking for great value for money and an unforgettable way to explore Sinharaja, this is absolutely it.

The very quiet Gardens, the lovely breakfasts, beautiful empty beach, lovely pool and courteous attentive staff. We had a gorgeous room with an out door,roll top bath. If you're looking for a quiet beach, this will hit the spot. The waves are strong so probably best for confident swimmers though you won't have to be an Olympian! The main house is also gorgeous with an airy colonial vibe. Evening meals can be taken at the beach restaurant over the road ( not a busy road). The place is gated with a 24hour watch for the security minded. Various swings, hammocks and board games dotted around. Peacocks, bee-eaters, monitor lizards and chipmunks abound. Heard a Coppersmith Barbet but didn't see it. Fruit bats fly over at sunset. Heaven!

My time at Cale Weligama was exceptional from start to finish. The room was remarkably spacious, and designed with a sense of calm luxury that made it effortless to unwind. What truly distinguished my stay, however, was the level of service. The concierge team was outstanding, consistently attentive without ever being intrusive. A heartfelt thank you to Brenden, who was an absolute standout. He anticipated my needs with such ease that it felt as though he was thinking on my behalf, allowing me to simply relax and savour the beauty of the hotel.

Located at the most beautiful beach in the Dickwella area, which is only a short walk away from all the beautiful cafés and restaurants in Hiriketiya. But the beach near the hotel is much better with sun decks and more laid back vibe. The owner Manori is sweetest and always smiling while attending all the guests patiently. The photos don’t do justice to the view from the room. While our room had side sea view it was still clear enough.

The staff were all so accommodating, especially the host Shafni, who went above and beyond to help us with day trips and made us feel so welcome. The location was amazing perfectly set back from the beach to have a more mellow vibe, and having access to a pool was wonderful after the beach and surfing. Also, the included breakfast was exceptional.

the location of this place was perfect, especially if you like to surf it is close to the beach where you surf. there is a lot of restaurants nearby, but there is also an clean outside kitchen that we used many times during our stay. the host was super helpful and really nice. Perfect hotel, perfect location on a cliff above the ocean. The pool is huge. The food is very varied and delicious. The beach below the hotel is good for kids, natural pools form the rocks and sea turtles come there. The entertainment man named Ajantha kept the kids busy with pool games and was very kind.

Mirissa in my opinion has a completely different vibe to the other beach areas I stayed at being Hiriketiyah and Unawatuna. While it does have attractions like Coconut Hill, it lacks the intimacy, character and ambience of the above mentioned beach areas and for that reason I would advise a shorter stay to experience Mirissa. One night was adequate for me.

Matara isn't a big town so it is relatively quick to get...

Matara isn't a big town so it is relatively quick to get from A to B. The beach is beautiful. But there aren't that many restaurants in in the town. The Matara Rest House near the fort had good food and drinks and is one of the most worth it dining options nearby. Lemon is also a good option. There are restaurants closer to the touristy spots but those are on the pricier side. snorkeling with turtles is popular in Matara.

The beach gets busy but you get the enjoy your swim and suf session despite the crowd. Since the beach is abit narrow you feel alot of people but mostly they are there to chill just like you. Wonderful atmosphere.

Lovely quiet beach -large - next to its much smaller and busier little sister Hiriketiya You can have the best of both worlds if you stay in Dikwella as it is only a km walk ( pleasant ) to Hiriketiya Sunbeds are free if you if you buy a drink We particularly liked Freedom Place at far end by the trees

Midigama is a great little surf culture town, good food, beaches and surf awesome Ate at the Corner, Cafe Pleasure, Surfing Wombats, Mamas Restaraunt, Gg Francis Seafood , Lazy Right Restaraunt, got fresh pastries of the little Nakery Tuk Tuk Truck, Coconuts and Cold Beers on the beach from Smiley , had a awesome time

The food was possibly the best that we had throughout Sri Lanka. the accommodation was lovely - roomy, great view, good beds, mosquito nets, cool feature such as an outside shower. the staff were so lovely and helpful. Really great stay.

Talalla beach is clean and not crowded like many on the...

Talalla beach is clean and not crowded like many on the South coast of Sri Lanka. Relax all day under the sun and take a dip in to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Not really a surfing beach but the right hand end in front of Talalla Retreat is safe for swimming. Friendly locals and a small supermarket nearby. Ate at all the local restaurants - they were all excellent, especially Manju Cinnamon Hut.

The hotel management are not good to deal with and I would not recommend this place at all. It looks pretty on the outside but full of problems and poor design, unsafe and unhygienic aspects that are a major concern. Hiring hot water shower that has no safety option even when it is not on high hot water setting, it can burn. The deluxe room we were offered has no windows at all and a dingy hole with no natural light or ventilation but advertised as having an outdoor dining room. It is falsely advertised to mislead people an we refused to stay in the room and had a mattress in the sea view room for which they charged us half the room rate when we didn’t even have a ton, just a mattress an they failed to even provide a towel. Their service is horrendous - stay away from this place and don’t be misled by the pretty photos like we’re. Even beach there not safe to swim and too far from Mirissa main beach so there is really nothing going for this place except the superficial looks.
