Perfect location, great room and facilities, all around excellent (and having free guest laundry was super helpful). The pictures don’t do it justice, and it seemed odd to have “boutique hotel” in the name - but it really is that: a high-end boutique hotel. Highly recommended

Well first off the absolute best thing is the location. It is literally on the waterfront across from the beach and walking distance from a bunch of shops and restaurants. The room was large for the price and had a whole sit down tub and not just a shower, which I think was the only one I seen during my whole 10 days. There's an indoor heated swimming pool that unfortunately I didn't have the time to try. There is a relatively cheap breakfast buffet (about $15 USD). Tons of on site parking that they didn't charge for and I didn't have to bother with putting something on my dash, which was great after days of hiking and my legs/ankles being beat. It was cold in NZ when I went but the temperature control in the room worked like a charm.

This was by far the cleanest and most functional accommodation we stayed in across our NZ road trip. With a playground, a pool, a really decent kitchen and separate rooms in our cabin (allowing us to set our 18mo toddler down to sleep but stay up chatting in an adjacent room, something we hadn't been able to do in our other locations due to them all being one big space... something we really valued to debrief about our day), this made a great base of operations for our stay in Hastings and actually would have been perfect for a prolonged stay. We walked in and immediately wished this was one of our longer stops, but alas it was just one night!

The Craggy Range Luxury Vineyard Retreat was Exceptional ..our flight from USA was cancelled, our baggage lost and the lady of the reception done everything to help us and offer us a welcome drink at the restaurant. The view was amazing , the breakfast was so healthy with fresh produce, excellent coffee .. all amenities that you could imagine. Room was so comfortable , clean and quiet .. Top of the top.. lovely terrace. We strongly suggest to have lunch or dinner at their restaurant. We could not expect more and will come back

Lovely seaside town, great architecture and climate.

Lovely seaside town, great architecture and climate. Wear sunscreen and a hat! I ate at Hapi twice, which is a great spot for vegan/allergy-havers and those who want to eat organically (I had cornbread, a filling sandwich and a rich cake). I had a very yummy peach cider from The Rogue Hop and some satisfying fries. I had a yummy curry from The Turmeric Cuisine over at the port, who also have a selection of vegan dishes. I had a good coffee from Baked on the side of the Central Fire Station Bistro. I had a beer at Market St bar which was busy in a good way with a range of ages in attendance. I had a vehicle to drive around with so that was easy but the people of Hawkes Bay are pretty useless with their indicators. I checked out The Department of Curiosities which was pretty cute, the pottery place next door which had some lovely works and the Tennyson Gallery which had some beautiful pieces of jewellery - all local wares. The Boyd Dunlop galleries are filled with a wide variety of high quality contemporary art pieces and the owners are lovely. The MTG (Museum) was great as a solo traveller. I recommend the basement exhibition to learn about the local history of the massive earthquake which shaped what the town is today. Was nice to see some new paint on the buildings since I was last there, much more colourful and interesting.

The shopping area was convenient.

The shopping area was convenient. I liked how the Warehouse and other shops were close by and a nice cafe/bakery was amongst it. Found it easy to get from one area to another with our GPS. Trying out Popeyes fast food was a interesting experience. Too spicy but then two of us were old codgers!!

We also visited Birdwoods Gallery. A cafe and art gallery combined. There was even a fully grown Ostrich and two young Ostrich chicks! And, don't forget the old fashioned Lolly Shop!! Some lovely sculptures in the garden, too. The New World Supermarket has an excellent selection of supplies.

Wairoa is totally underrated.

Wairoa is totally underrated. I know it's got a reputation for gangs and gang fights over the years but it took me by surprise for the following reasons: 1. The river walk was one of the most serene and best river walks I've had around NZ towns... and I've practically been everywhere in NZ. 2. The Norfolk Pine along the river were some of the most mature and magnificent trees I've seen. They definitely rival the ones along the Napier-Hastings motorway. 3. The road to the beach was literally 5 mins away from our accommodation. You get a fantastic view of the South Pacific Ocean and over the mountain range westward, you can watch some fantastic sunsets. I spent my 2022 New Years here and I saw off 2021 with a fantastic orange/yellow sunset (the kind you see in Bali).

This is a great place for a quiet, relaxing stay, with access to nearby beach walks and walking trails in the Ta Mata National Park. Don't come if you want night life or nearby restaurants. You're in the countryside, and the nearest town (Napier) is a bout 15km away..

Te Awanga was our choice of location as we were interested...

Te Awanga was our choice of location as we were interested in Cape Kidnappers, the wineries and accomodation with a bay view. We stayed at the Winemakers Cottage and it was exceptional. Te Awanga has a great cafe Huegge right on the beach. Gannet Tours operate from here (but there are no gannets in winter!) Trips up to the Cape Kidnappers Golf Course are not eay to arrange and I think the price if you get there may be exclusive. You can walk around the base of Kidnappers Bay to the gannet colony. It is a bit risky as the cliffs have rockfalls and the beach is made of black rocks which make walking a bit tricky. Great access to Hastings, Napier, Havelock north and Ocean Beach. Craggy Range Winery, Elephant Hill, and Clearview are all easily accessible.

We only stayed for the evening as we were attending A sports event in Hastings. It was a great place to visit for an overnight stay. We had a nice dinner at the Irish bar along the road with a couple of drinks. We have visited Napier many times and would recommend others visit this city.

Hastings is part of the Hawkes Bay region.

Hastings is part of the Hawkes Bay region. Napier is a much nicer place. Hastings town was empty with no shops or places to eat at night. Would stay in Napier & explore everything from there rather than basing your stay in Hastings. Surrounding areas offered things to do but you need your own transport. Excellent wineries but again operate during the day.

The unit was clean and comfortable.

The unit was clean and comfortable. There was a heatpump if needed and the kitchen and bathroom were more than adequate with everything needed supplied. Ours was a very short visit as we were there solely for a reunion so were not able to visit the landmarks and attractions. The vineyards were pointed out to us as we were driven to the airport. They looked very impressive.
