I stayed in 4 hotels on this trip, 3 of which were 5-star, and this was the only one that truly made me feel like I was in a 5-star hotel; even the TV had my name on it when I turned it on. The room had everything of high quality and the service was excellent.

The host is a nice and funny person, always with a smile on his face and very thoughtful ☺️ The homestay is lovely and full of colorful plants 🌸 We have breakfast every morning and you can also rent a motorbike in the same place on a very good price 😁 We definitely are coming back ❤️

Family run guesthouse, all rooms have an amazing seaview, are well equipped and roomy. This is on the other side of the town, which is where the sunrises. It is also close to where most of the boat tours leave - so a convenient spot for this. It is a 15 minute walk to the main part of town from here (it is quite a hilly walk but was fine for us) or a cheap taxi, where most of food and bars are (and where you can watch sunset)! We took a boat tour of the caves in Kayakes, the floating village, swam in one of the bays and cycled to a remote village on the island which is only accessible by boat. Which I recommend. The family were very helpful. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Just spent a few days in Cat Ba and honestly, it was super chill. The island feels way less crowded than Ha Long Bay but still has those gorgeous limestone cliffs and blue water vibes. I loved taking the boat tour around Lan Ha Bay — quieter, cleaner, and really peaceful. Seafood here is fresh and cheap, especially the grilled squid. The town itself is a bit touristy, but if you rent a scooter and explore the national park, it gets amazing real quick. Definitely worth visiting if you want nature without too much hype.

Hai Pong is very interesting and clean city.

Hai Pong is very interesting and clean city. They have a very lovely big park with plenty of beautiful tropical trees for shades. The walkways are always being swept of leaves. Very wide and easy to walk around. People are very friendly and helpful. Few Cafes around park areas and very pleasant to sit and people watching. On the weekend they have plenty toys for the kids to ride on and very bright and entertaining during the night. Place still have a nice pleasant vibes that is Vietnam is known for. Easy to get around can walk in the park all the way to their famous Cau Tre Canal. Don't forget the Banh My Cay which is Hai Pong is famous for.

A lot of ports, so there are a lot of big trucks...

A lot of ports, so there are a lot of big trucks transporting containers. I felt a little dangerously on my motorcycle in Vietnam traffic. But it is true, that 70 km per hour is all you need. A lot of seafood. The lane cabin was by far the best part, you have a nice view around and you can enjoy hills on the other side. Easy way from Hanoi. Haiphong is near and big enough to let you eat and drink all the night.

Cat Ba Island was a fantastic getaway.

Cat Ba Island was a fantastic getaway. The scenery is stunning, with towering limestone cliffs and calm, clear waters — Lan Ha Bay in particular felt peaceful and less crowded than Ha Long. We spent our days exploring the national park and renting scooters to see hidden beaches and viewpoints, which was a lot of fun. The town itself is relaxed, with plenty of good little cafés and seafood restaurants to refuel after a day of adventure. People were friendly and welcoming, and it felt easy to get around. Overall, Cat Ba is perfect for nature lovers who want a mix of activity and chill time — definitely worth a visit.

Most travelers skip Haiphong. This is a mistake. If you travel to eat, don’t skip Haiphong. The food is interesting, delicious, varied and exceptional. We had the best Pho here that we’ve had in four trips to Vietnam. The people of Haiphong are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The city center has a lovely park running through it. The old colonial architecture is rundown in places but interesting to look at. We stayed out of the old city in a modern development, but would stay in the center next time even though GRAB and the city bus are easy to use.

Enjoyed Cat Ba, but don’t go on others reviews for accomodation, check out places fully, we changed places twice and would have changed again but decided to stick it out, do not accept a bad room, ask for one which you believe you have paid for and as it was described when you booked it. Don’t book for a weekend or public holiday, the Vietnamese flood the town. We found best value places to eat and drink, cheapest and great food Oasis restaurant, The big man for good western food.
