I upgraded my stay to a private room, and the room was whoa! It was also close to food street, bus stop, and Komtar building. The building is a phenomenal place to chill, relax, and make friends. If you are solo traveler on a budget, you can go for the dorm as well, but I just wanted a private room, and I went for the upgrade. Either ways, the premises and the facilities are up for all, and they are excellent.

What a charming hotel! The wooden floors, the tiles, the matching furniture - it all works. Plus: modern art displayed in the rooms, balancing the colonial feel.
Breakfast is good: both asian and western choices, lovely decorated breakfast room.
We stayed in one of the two-storey villas: lots of space, comfy sofa, drinking water machine (hot/cold), coffee/tea and snacks provided. Yes, some parts are a little run down and the jacuzzi took forever to fill, but the charm and character of this hotel make it a winner!

Having stayed there before, we had high expectations and these were exceeded this trip. Although they do not serve breakfast anymore, the range of local breakfast venues combined with the short walk in the balmy weather was not a problem. The manager Muiz was nothing short of outstanding. He assisted with a room upgrade, parking, eating venues, etc. Relaxing and the place has a older colonial Chinese style feel and calmness about it. We look forward to returning.

A relaxing stay, wonderful staff... special thanks to Han and all the welcoming smiles. Our room was so spacious with exquisite and very cool heritage tile flooring. Super big and comfy bed. Lovely afternoon tea, each day a different offering. It's a bit of a walk into heritage town but then I discovered the best shortcut down Kimberley St. Very easy plus cute cafes along the way. Thank you Areca for a great stay.

Absolutely gorgeous historical hotel.
This was my second time staying and it was just as good as the first time.
The pool in the heritage wing is beautiful and never seemed terribly busy.
My room was huge, with lots of space to relax and a lovely view of the pool.

The hotel provided exceptional value for money. Exceptional service, food, a lovely beach for a swim and pool. As it was our honeymoon they even upgraded us to a beach view room which we very much enjoyed. The facilities were new and our room was spacious and very clean.
