Takachiho
Hanare no yado Kamigakure offers rooms with comfortable beds and traditional Japanese-style rooms fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring. All rooms come with a flat-screen TV, air conditioning and a seating area. The en suite bathroom has a bath tub, a hairdryer and free toiletries. Kamigakure is a real treat to stay in and was one of the highlights of our holiday in Japan. The room is incredibly spacious, well equipped with everything you could possibly need. There were thoughtful touches throughout like local sweets each day and drinks in the fridge to keep you hydrated whilst using the private bath and sauna. Our room also had a projector and screen, which could be watched from bed and was a real treat when unwinding in the evening. The breakfast and dinner each day were exceptional using local fresh produce. I liked that there was a menu before eating, which told you everything you would receive during the meal. The portion sizes were also perfect for us. Not too much and not too little. Location to the gorge is perfect and was within walking distance (15-20 minutes) with Takachiho Shrine on the way. Also, recommend trying Marumoku Coffee in the village (check his opening times on Instagram first as they vary day to day). Would also recommend the karaage restaurant across the road from Takachiho Shrine. Both excellent. The staff were a real pleasure and asset to Kamigakure. Very welcoming and couldn't do more to help you have a comfortable stay. I would definitely stay here again and it has given me fond memories of my trip that I'll always remember. Could not recommend more.

Spacious room with tatami mats. The owner and staff were very accommodating and friendly. The kitchen was equipped with anything you need. Location was within walking distance to the beach and local sites. There was a small bike to borrow if needed. We enjoyed sharing meals with other guests.
The room was huge for 2 people. The futon were confortable. There were hangers to let your clothes dry (ours don't go in the dryer but there was one too). The place is well located, you can reach the main attractions by foot or bus.
The free public onsen, free Yakult, coffee, tea, ramen and popsicles.
Was our first time staying at a traditional 2-storey japanese house, did take some getting used to, otherwise an interesting experience! Futons were tucked in the cupboard and was comfy once laid out. House was spacious with old school finishings, however toilet was surprisingly newly constructed (it seems).
Cheap, great for a night. I was in the Jap room at the first floor. Futon was confortable. Bathroom is shared. Had a good rest. Owner gave me a perfect tourist pamphlet for the region
Hot springs, Buffé-breakfast
We absolutely loved doing onsen every evening: a private in-room one is just such a wonderful luxury. The entire Ryokan is so elegant and beautiful. Breakfast was interesting and very traditional. The staff were so lovely and accommodating, always finding ways to answer our questions and helping us wherever they could - I will miss them all. Best of all was the town of Obi, which is a beautiful place with so much history. I really loved our Miyazaki trip and staying at Nazuna was part of that loveliness.
I LOVE this hotel. It was my first hotel in Japan so it was a great introduction to Japan. The staff are very friendly and helpful, there is an onsen inside the hotel which I LOVED. Do keep in mind that they do not allow individuals with tattoos inside the onsen. The breakfast is Japanese style traditional breakfast where you sit on the floor (you can also sit on a chair if you want to as they are availabe) and the food is wonderful. The room is a little small but I think that is expected seeing as it is Japan but it was great value for money!
It was perfect ! Obi is a really cute town that pairs with a stroll in the morning and spending the afternoon in the onsen of the room. The room was beautiful, peaceful and the breakfast in the morning delicious (traditional breakfast) The staff was attentive and professional (and spoke English)
