This 3-star ryokan offers a housekeeping service and private check-in and check-out. Tsuta Hot Spring is 36 km away and Hirosaki Castle is 22 km from the ryokan. This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!). Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable. As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area. Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!

Super spacious and comfortable, with a stunning view to the mountains. Breakfast and dinner were delicious (buffet style), enough vegetarian options. There's a free drink bar available for the afternoon/evening hours as well. I didn't use the public bath because they don't allow visible tattoo's though.

For your comfort, you will find slippers and free complimentary bath amenities. Tokinenoyado Yunushi Ichijoh features free WiFi throughout the property. The entire experience was extraordinary. We were greeted with welcome drinks in front of a fire, and led to our room by courteous but hospitable staff. Our 3-person room faced a quiet garden, and we enjoyed delicious cake and tea before being led to the dinner. There was a pair of yukata and a pair of more modern pajamas in the room, along with a warm jacket and a pair of socks for each person. There was a toilet in our entrance hall, and a sink and mirror in the room. Dinner and breakfast were both served in an independent Japanese room located in the older building, and our server conversed with us in fluent Mandarin and English. We loved the exquisitely made Japanese dinner and breakfast, every single small dish and platter of it! The two hotsprings were also delightfully pleasant. The indoors medicinal bath was small but very clean, while the outdoor bath was much more spacious. For some reason, we did not meet many people using the bath either in the evening or the morning. We opted for a shuttle bus to leave the hotel in the morning. The hotel was very helpful with answering questions and reserving shuttle service through the booking.com chat room in English. We were extremely happy with our stay, and hope to stay longer next time.

Great, old school Japanese place to stay, right next to the gondola - its about a 20meter walk to the gondola entrance! And you can ski down the hill, right to the door. The room was nice and big with traditional tatami and futons. Great staff - the owner speaks really good english and is really helpful - he has great suggestions for everything from Onsen to restaurants etc. They even helped me ship my snowboard with Kuroneko back to Narita.
It’s well located. Close to the most famous onsen in Zao. The rooms are typical ryokan room, but I had to set my own futon. Onsen are great too
A traditional japanese style ryokan, with all the bells and whistles: tatami floor, futon beds, yukata, own onsen. The room was lovely, the food tasty and the owners extremely friendly. Can only recommend.
This Ryokan has one of the best hot spring water in Japan. It’s our fourth time to come visit here, and I always cannot appreciate enough everything about this Ryokan. Best Onsen, food is fabulous and staff members are super kind. We will surely come back as always.
This is a gorgeous Japanese inn (Ryokan). The lady who runs it speaks good English and is very kind, friendly and helpful, as are the staff. The room was beautiful and I slept comfortably on my futon after a dip in the private bath. I had breakfast in the morning and it was one of the best Japanese breakfasts I’d had and so beautifully presented. The hotel is a 15 min walk from the station and therefore, within a 15 min walk there are quite a few places to eat. The owner can help you with all the recommendations of Aizu Wakamatsu too.
Comfy rooms, fresh sheets, yukata. Tatami mats are clean and comfy. Friendly couple and cute dogs!! We felt very welcome. Please use „Takagimachi“ if you come by train and have luggage, better streets/concrete and space on the sidewalk. Best thing: tattoo-friendly Onsen on 3rd floor!!!
The atmosphere and ambiance are very peaceful. This is a place to stay if you want to have a nice ryokan and onsen experience. Everything is basically straightforward. Staff is not proficient in english, but if you use google Translate, that will help. The food was great with japanese traditional breakfast and dinner. The whole experience was excellent. The onsen was also good. So if you like onsen, most likely, this is a place to go.
Lovely traditional Ryokan with meals cooked and served sitting on the tatami floor around an Irori sunken fire. The staff attended to cooking the various courses over the hot coals and even breakfast was cooked this way. It was delicious and a great experience. Nice onsen and lovely staff and nostalgic old building.
