The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. We spent Christmas Day here. Very traditional, clean and welcoming. The photos on Booking.com did not do this place justice. Staff were helpful, and offered advice about the local market. How to use the Onsen and etiquette about shoes/slippers and provided traditional wear whilst staying at the Ryoken everyone wore them, regardless of nationality, which made the evening meal very special. The 13 course dinner was really a whole experience that we won’t forget. We opted for the Japanese breakfast, again beautifully presented with a lot of food. All food was produced locally which was great too. Lots of art and historical pieces to browse and staff happy to talk you through. Rooms were comfortable clean and traditional. We had room 311 which was a family room with a bedroom and matted area where futons were laid out for additional guests. The room was large enough for us to accommodate 6 adults for after dinner drinks. Was really close to the train and bus station and we caught the ski shuttle bus and went skiing for the day. Very much one of the best parts of our stay.

Everything is amazing in this hotel. I stayed in a family room, japanese style, very traditional. What a comfortable room, clean, very well equipped and with several ammenities. The breakfast is fantastic with 3 choices, but I'd suggest the japanese one to close with a full japanese experience. Finally, the staff is so lovely and very attentives with everything. Staying in a traditional ryokan house was an unforgettable experience that I recommend to anyone traveling in Japan. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and their fluent English was a pleasant bonus. We tried the local onsen, which was a wonderful experience. The accommodation is simple, as expected from the traditional style, and all the amenities were completely sufficient. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. I highly recommend it and thank you for a fantastic stay!

Beautiful accomodation. Nice, clean and comfortable. We loved the wooden smell and enjoyed the private bath. The breakfast was delicious. Easy to get to with a car. Self check in and check out process was smooth to do especially as we arrived late. Should have stayed another night or made sure to arrive early to properly enjoy the accomodation.
