Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. The hotel features hot-spring baths, a restaurant serving breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This ryokan is introduced in Michelin Green Guide Japan. It's really hard to express how superb this stay was. And it was only 1 day. I imagine this is thanks to type of the place, not being typical hotel, but rather traditional ryokan with it's quality. From the beginning, the staff was excellent. Helpful, informative, easy to talk to. The room, comparing to our other hotels, was huge. Sleeping on futon was our best sleeping experience during whole stay in Japan. We have booked private bath, and again - everything well prepared, all important things available in the room. We were provided also with yukatas to be used in ryokan, but in addition we could also use more colorful that could be used outside. Hotel is 5 minutes walk from main station and on the way to old town of Takayama. The last but not least - breakfast was the best we had in Japan. We have chosen Japanese one and we could try many elements.

The ryokan will provide guests with air-conditioned units offering a desk, a coffee machine, a fridge, a safety deposit box, a flat-screen TV, a terrace and a private bathroom with a hot tub. Each unit has a kettle, while some rooms include a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, an oven and a microwave. At the ryokan, units are equipped with bed linen and towels. We will be back! WOW. This was a shot in the dark booking since I couldn’t find a place near the beach that was tattoo friendly. We were blown away at the facility, amenities and overall beauty of the location. I booked 3 rooms. Everyone had their own private onsen bath. My husband and I upgraded to the sauna barrel room and we LOVED IT. The guys all did sauna in the morning. They even give you handmade authentic sauna hats. Breakfast was simple but filling. Half of the group did the Japanese style, half did American. My jumbo toast made me feel like I was in a Ghibli movie having breakfast. There is a vending machine in the breakfast area was a variety of snacks and drinks. Our van made it on the roads to the property. So a standard vehicle will have no issue. Beautiful creak flowing in the backyard of every room. Every room has an entrance, toilet & sink room, living room (doubles as bedroom bc you have tatami beds), vanity sink & rack, THEN sliding door to your shower & bath, THEN sliding door to your porch with seating. Our room had the barrel immediately to the left of the porch with ANOTHER outdoor tub. Price was excellent!!

1.6 km from Takayama Station, Iroriyado Hidaya is a recently renovated property situated in Takayama and features air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. This 4-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and bicycle parking. The ryokan has parking on-site, a hot spring bath and full-day security. The hospitality was superb. Upon arrival, we were served matcha tea and traditional peanut snacks from Takayama, which were both delicious. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. In particular, Haruka provided us with a detailed explanation of the ryokan's facilities, as well as recommendations on attractions in and around Takayama. When we asked if we could buy fruits at Miyagawa morning market, she recommended that we buy apples there, and we successfully managed to purchase sweet apples the next day. Haruka also provided us with an extremely generous selection of Japanese snacks and helped us to select fragrant Japanese incense to light up in our room. The staff were able to communicate in basic English and the posters / printouts in the hotel (e.g. guidance on how to use the onsen & eat the Japanese breakfast) were in multiple languages. The ryokan went above and beyond to help us with our requests. They helped us to book a reservation at our requested restaurant (Kyoya) on the day of our stay, even though we reached out to them prior to our stay. I had initially wanted to ask them to help me forward my luggage to another hotel, but they kindly offered to help me store my luggage for 1.5 days after our checkout instead, which helped me save on luggage forwarding fees. The ryokan is housed in a building that is over 100 years old. Despite this, the rooms were impressively clean and well-maintained, with modern facilities such as air-conditioning and bidet toilets. The futons in the room were also very cozy and the blanket was thick and comfortable. The ryokan has an indoor onsen, which we found very relaxing after a long day outside. The ryokan can also help you light up an irori (traditional Japanese charcoal-fired hearth) although we did not try out this service.
