Nice and clean, onsen baths look out to a garden with maple trees, would be lovely in Autumn. Staff were very accommodating, their English was limited which is common outside the big cities like Tokyo or Kyoto. We used Google translate to communicate and managed to get all the info needed for the trip.

Old, tired, mold in bathrooms, no English speaking staff, over priced, breakfast almost all Japanese food and quality wasn’t very good. Don’t stay at this place unless you pay approximately $50/night.

Beppu has a great vibe, especially the area around Beppu Station and the area near the "hells". The sight of water vapour rising between all the buildings is truly something. But aside from the hells and the hot springs there is not that much more to do in the city itself. So 2-3 days should definetely be enough for people who have a limited amount of time in Japan. The city of Yufu one hour busride from Beppu and certainly worth a visit. There are a couple of other great places in Oita Prefecture worth visiting but those are a little bit hard to access without a car.

Beppu is one of the best cities I visited, it is a city is in the middle of sea and mountain. There is a lot of Onsen where you can be easy to find around the city, Beppu is called " City of Onsen".
You can relax and release any daily tired at the onsen bath (especially if you bath onsen pool outside)
Furthermore, you can go to viewpoint to see the Beppu city and mountain view.
It is a good memory to visit there.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!
The staff was very friendly but most of them only know Japanese. There was a private onsen in our room and also one onsen half outside which could be used in private. The third big onsen was public.
The room was very spacious and clean with a beautiful traditional Japanese look. You also get Yukatas you can wear for breakfast or when you go to the onsen.
The breakfast was very traditional Japanese (rice, miso soup, fish).
Close to all tourist spots of Beppu (15 minute walk to Beppu Hells, the observatory deck, Oita fragrance museum, …)!
We booked rooms with half-board which included the traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner. The tatami rooms were very spacious with a sea view (at the waterfront). The food was plenty and tasty. As we booked for 2 nights with half-board, they made sure to offer different menues over the 2 days (9-course dinner). There were an indoor and roof-top/outdoor common onsen-baths with sufficient space for relaxing. The hotel personnel was very friendly.
At walkable distance to the train station, close to Beppu tower. The staff was really friendly and explained everything in English. A large kitchen area and common room. The Japanese style room was spacious and the tatami mats seemed to be really new. A large fridge and hot water kettle in the room. Shower and toilet (with toilet brush, which is rather rare in Japanese hotels) were in separated rooms.
Hotel Seawave is one of the last authentic “Beppu Onsen ♨️” hotels in Beppu. Nothing about this hotel is fake. The rooms are lived in and comfortable. The Onsen is authentic 1980s style with soothing water and a unique “old school” atmosphere. The breakfast 🍳 is outstanding and the checkout time of 11am allows you to bathe, eat, pack and relax slowly and stress free. Awesome 👏🏻 hotel.
The staff was exceptionally friendly and we probably had our best breakfast during our 4 week stay of Japan in Yamada Bessou. It was a traditional Japanese breakfast in a beautiful scenery. They even catered to our vegetarian wishes and asked specifically what we can and can't eat.
The private Onsen was beautiful and very romantic.
We would love to come and visit Beppu again!
It was a unique and artistic experience. Was impressed by the decor and the unique building. Location was convenient to tourist attractions, however, a car is a must to this hotel. It is definitely not your typical standard hotel experience. There was a private natural onsen bath in the room overlooking the city of beppu.
Hotel is nearby the sea. Staffs are very nice. They have parking area (additional charge 550 jpy/car). You can choose your favourite yukata color and size to wear at the lobby. They have staff to help you make up your futon (japanese bed) at the night. Last, They have rooms with private onsen with sea view.
This hotel exceeded expectations with its spacious rooms that blend modern design seamlessly. The staff were notably attentive and friendly. A highlight was the luxurious private onsen in the room, offering a unique and relaxing experience. Private park on site was another plus.
Great location in Beppu Kitahama near the sea – we could literally see the Beppu Tower from our window. It was a nice experience staying in a more or less traditional Japanese hotel. Last but not least, the hotel onsen was very enjoyable, especially during the winter season!
The triple room excellent. The onsen heavenly. Breakfast different from other restaurants we’ve eaten in Japan but excellent. Daily soup great. The staff friendly and courteous. Large twin beds. Nice size room and not typical of other Japanese hotel rooms we stayed at.
Awesome in-room Japanese style breakfast and dinner with a variety of courses. Kind staff that would chat with us and share travel tips. There is shuttle bus service between hotel and the JR station within designated time. There is an indoor onsen tub in every house.
I like the exciting architecture of the hotel and spacious rooms, and having my onsen in the apartment. We both have tattoos, so here we've been comfortable like at home. Also, we had two types of vegetarian breakfast, which was delicious.
Stunning modern hotel. Our twin beds were very comfortable. The onsen was really amazing.
The hotel is very convenient for Beppu station. We did not try the breakfast but it looked very good.
Great location right next to the Beppu tower (easy to find) and convenient to the train station and city center bars and restaurants. Great onsen that one would want from a Beppu hotel.
Spacious, japanese-style apartment.
Calm and convenient. Excellent Kitchen-Supplys and very friendly staff.
Also the possibility to use the hotel onsen was nice.
Location as it’s opposite Beppu Station. The hot spring or Japanese called it Onsen was very good. The staff are friendly though very limited English speaking.
