Surrounded by lush mountains, Linz is on the Danube River, and although known for industry, has become a vibrant cultural hub. It was an important centre of the Holy Roman Empire and Emperor Friedrich III lived in the castle.
The old town centres on Main Square, site of the Christmas market and elaborate Trinity Column. St Martin’s Church is Austria’s oldest, and the largest is the new cathedral, much more elaborate than the old cathedral. On the surrounding streets are shops, restaurants and much of Booking.com’s Linz accommodation, including luxury city centre hotels and cheap guest houses near the train station.
A riverside park contains the Lentos modern art museum, colourfully lit at night. The excellent arts scene also encompasses the Linzer Landestheater, Brucknerhaus concert hall and the Ars Electronica Center which hosts its own festival.
The Design Center Linz event venue is near the industrial powerhouse – the Voestalpine steelworks, whose tour showcases the factory once supervised by Hermann Göring. A more chilling World War II reminder is Mauthausen concentration camp to the south-east.
Across the river are Johannes Kepler University and Pöstlingberg mountain, ascended by a tram that passes the zoo. At the top are a viewing platform, church and the children’s Grotto Railway, and south-west is Linz Blue Danube Airport.

we arrived on Sunday, it was bad for us because nothing was working from the shops, at 2 and 3 in the afternoon there are only a few restaurants where you can eat but really tasty and not so expensive.

Linz is an industrial town but has made a supreme effort to transform into a modern, smart city. It hosts many festivals, including the famous Ars Electronika in September. The tourist information is fine, although check if your festival badge includes free transportation for the duration of your stay. I paid for a Linz card, but I didn't really need it unless you take the Postlingberg tram to the nearby mountain.

I had a beautiful time.
I had a beautiful time. It remains a family favourite destination. In particular, my recently deceased mother loved to visit Linz as a child with her Austrian side of the family. My Hungarian parents met in Australia 65 years ago, were 62 years married, and regularly praised the dog friendly eateries in Linz. My second visit and I share their view. Hope to return. x😇😘+

A very nice city, not as busy as Vienna or Salzburg, but we really liked it here. I recommend visiting the cathedral, it is very beautiful. Other main attractions were also interesting, especially seeing the Ars Electronica Center at night. I also recommend taking the tram to Pöstlingberg, there are nice views of the whole city.
As a restaurant, I recommend the typically Austrian Stiegl-Klosterhof. They cook excellently here and we also had a nice chat with the staff.

Linz is an industrial city, but has a beautiful old and cozy center. You won't find mass tourism, but this city on the Danube is quite interesting with some nice locations, such as the Hauptplatz and the riverside promenade. There is a very nice museum, Lentos, with an interesting collection including Schiele and Kokoschka.
A really pleasant traditional family run hotel. Appropriately named for its location close to Linz railway station this friendly hotel is on a nice quiet street. While a large hotel it has a friendly cosy feel. The style is quite traditional in a nice way. Had a large room with comfortable bed, separate sofa with table and desk with chairs. Easy to use TV. A very modern bathroom with large walk in shower. A very good buffet breakfast in a large airy restaurant with a good vegan selection.
Perfectly located hotel close to the Linz downtown. Underground parking available, though has to be paid separately (EUR 24,- per day). Standard hotel room with all necessary equipment. Everything seemed freshly renovated and clean. Stable Wi-Fi connection, VPN is supported. Very quiet, though effective, air conditioning.
Good breakfast, don't forget to book it when making reservation. The nearest option to have a good meal outside the hotel was in 7min walking distance.
The location of the hotel is right in the city center. In 2 minutes you are at the main square or at the cathedral. Near the hotel you will find cafes, restaurants, bakeries and a shopping center. The hotel offers a parking garage right next to the hotel. In case of full occupancy, there are x additional parking garages in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
Rich breakfast, helpful staff.
If we have a trip to Linz, we will book the hotel again
Overall, this is a nice budget hotel, perfect for a short-term stay for those traveling by rail and looking to explore the main attractions of Linz. The hotel is located very close to the central station and the Linz city center. My room was clean and spacious overall, and the shared facilities were well maintained. The receptionist was friendly and accommodating.
The room was spacey and really modern. The location is great too. And the price was also good compared to other hotels in Linz.
I read some people were annoyed by noise from outside. As I was living in central part of Linz before, I think it’s because of weekend. For my stay on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, both nights were quiet and I could sleep well.
Nothing. This place should be closed by Austrian government. It was horrible and creepy in every aspect. The reception was very bad, the lady there looks like she just woke up and she looks like she is forced to work there.
The room was super small and also the bathroom and wc very dirty and also very small..
The hotel is located near Linz city center. You can reach it by foot within only a few minutes from Hauptplatz. It is very clean and comfortable, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast offers everything you need. When I would return to Linz, I'll book this hotel again.
Location is very good. The 2 nice museums and old city are within walking distance. It was a surprising thing for us to enjoy the fantastic view to the Donau river and Linz old city from the top floor of hotel room. Parking was free in the front of hotel during our stay.
Located in the center of the city, this hotel is quite close to the old city center as well. However, expect a 15-20 minutes walk till you get to the old Rathaus or the Mozart Haus.
The breakfast was very good, abundant and diversified. The staff was very friendly.
A very nice self-check in hotel that we have booked for the second time in the very centre of Linz.
It has a lot of socializing corners and the decor is great.
The staff was on holidays, but we managed to get everything we specially requested.
Just a regular chain hotel, it was suitable for one night. The staff was a bit rude at check in since I have poor german, they laughed at me and had the classic austrian stereotype to treat people. Luckly was not there for too long.
The hotel is a beautifully renovated historic building with a wonderful atmosphere. Breakfast completely satisfactory (orange fresh...), beds and blankets very comfortable. Location right in the centre of Linz, yet quiet.
Very clean and modern rooms
Their app works perfectly (unlike most other hotel apps in Austria)
Online check-in was quick and easy
The hotel accommodated our need for a late check-out without hesitation
