A beautiful car-free village in the Swiss Alps, Zermatt is world-famous for its skiing and mountaineering qualities. Standing in the shadow of the impressive Matterhorn, this is a true Alpine paradise, popular with both celebrities and citizens of all nationalities.
Surrounded by stunning mountains and plenty of hiking trails, Zermatt offers more than just pretty views. Zermatt is a beautiful small car free village. There are only electric vehicles running in Zermatt. Electric taxi's are easily available from the train station and they also provide their contact number for easily calling them back for a trip from your apartment back to the train station. There is one main shopping street with many small and big stores and the operating times of each store can vary. Usually all stores were operating from 10am to 12.30 pm and then again from 2pm to 6pm on most days. There are many restaurants in the shopping street with the Gelato Italian being our favourite Ice cream shop. The whole city is very picturesque and easy to walk around. There are many exciting places to visit in Zermatt like the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise mountain, the Gornergrat mountain, the Matterhorn Museum and there are many luxury spa resorts out there. We definitely recommend visiting Zermatt at least for 2 full days.

This was our third visit to Zematt.
This was our third visit to Zematt. Twice previously we’d come skiing, and it is hard to find better, particularly for long reds. This is our first visit in spring, and although we went in May when many things are shut, there were still plenty to do, and very few crowds.
It is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year, with plenty to do and see, provided you like the outdoors.
Do not miss the (admittedly expensive) train ride to Gornergrat. It is world-class for views.

This is a magical town that you must go to once in your lifetime. Whilst it is generally regarded as a ski town, we thoroughly enjoyed to town and its hospitality when we travelled there in May. It is so pretty; the people are friendly and it is a very unique experience.

First and foremost, all the key highlights within Zermatt, are easily walkable. The trip on the cogwheel train appears to be busy regardless of season so we paid for priority seating. It made a difference! We boarded before the crowds and chose very comfortable seats on the right side of the train. We had investigated places for lunch and dinner prior to going-that really helped! Reservations for dinner are always recommended. Some places are not open on Sunday so be mindful of that.

Zermatt is a cute town that was built for tourism so it caters to all needs. Ample dining options, many activity companies and outfitters etc. It's definitely pricey but anyone going there knows that in advance. It's easily walkable and you are never far from amenities or transportation options. It felt like 4 days was the right amount of time to stay. There are other towns and regions we prefer in Switzerland but Zermatt was pleasant and what we expected.

Amazing place, highly recommend.
Amazing place, highly recommend. We took the cog railway to the Gornergrat and the cable car to the small Matternhorn. Beautiful views.
Classic breakfast - selection: salami, ham, cheeses, pastries, fruit, coffee, tea, cocoa, jams, cornflakes, yogurts, eggs... . Transportation: we mostly walked, it's not a big resort. We went to the start of the cable car in a 6-seater electric taxi. You could also pay by credit card, the taxi driver was very accommodating.
Our family stayed at the panoramic Matterhorn view 4 twin bedroom, and we definitely got that panoramic view. The bedroom was nice with two beds on the base and two in the loft above. The best thing I loved about this hotel was the swimming pool, outside jacuzzi, and the sauna rooms. Definitely make sure to bring your swimsuit to experience all those free amenities that come as a package. Our family also booked a reservation to eat at the hotel restaurant, Restaurant Matterhorn. Our server was very friendly and the food was very good.
We stayed at the Hotel Albana Real for 1 week over New Year. We had a really wonderful time. The staff are super friendly and really made our trip special. The spa facilities are lovely and a great way to relax after a hard days skiing. We would definitely recommend visiting the restaurants in the hotel : the Japanese is amazing for both Teppanyaki (which is really special) or the sushi bar. The Japanese is probably the best restaurant in Zermatt. 5 stars. Thank you so much Hotel Albana
First of all - the staff, these guys and girls are really making this place special. Service is top quality. Another good things - SPA area, outside pool, nice saunas, relaxing areas. Very good hotel's location, just few steps form the ski lift + from the bus stop which takes to yet another ski lift. Breakfast - one of the best I had, there is everything you can think of.. just great, really liked the reserved table which did not change for the whole stay.
We got an upgrade for the best room in the hotel. The hotel exceeded my expectations . The breakfast has many options and is fresh and so delicious . The staff is super friendly. Especially the greek girl at the reception is so nice and helped me with a few things. The spa area is very cool. They even serve an afternoon tea at 5 pm which is a nice touch. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking to have a relaxing time with family.
The brekfast had a great selection of meats and breads , sweet buns croissants jams . Fresh eggs You can cook to Your liking and great selection of hot drinks . Hotel location is i think the best You can get in Zermatt , the family that runs the place is extra friendly and helpful i absolutely loved every bit of my stay they make it exceptionally good , gave great recommendations about the town etc i will defenatly come back :)))
Our room has a really nice view of Matterhorn and a cute balcony. The breakfast is also really good, we enjoyed it a lot. The staff is also very nice and helpful. The location in my opinion is the best among all the other hotels in Zermatt. Walkable distance to both side of the gondola and also close to bus stops if need to take a bus. Walkable distance to the shopping and restaurant area in Zermatt town
The location was excellent and the price was reasonable. Zermatt is super expensive, so it was great to find a hotel that did not take all my money. But the location is the best - easy walking distance to train station, mountain train station, and ski shops. And, the building is on a secluded side street so there is little noise from the main street. They also had a nice ski locker.
True excellence all around. The welcome from staff at check is outstanding - more hospitable than many ultra luxury hotels. Hannah at check on spent 30 mins acquaint us with the village and mountain. We felt like family. Hotel is super clean, great earth tones minimalistic decor, location is great and the balcony rooms have a great view of the Matterhorn. Definitely recommend to others.
The hotel itself is fun and centrally located,… the ski room for equipment is great as well (eg., boot heaters!)
The best part is the staff - they were incredible. We left a daypack in the train, and (weeks after we’d returned home it was recovered). Nikolas went to the SBB lost and found, picked it up and shipped it to us. Incredible kindness and service!
Everything about Hotel Capricorn was amazing - the family owned feel, the staff (especially Valerie and Barbara) who made sure we had nothing but the best during our stay. The hot tub and views of the Matterhorn are remarkable, the wellness center was fantastic and the breakfast was delicious.
This is the best hotel in Zermatt! Great location and wonderful views of the Matterhorn. The staff were amazing and so helpful. The breakfast was great and had lots of options. The room was very comfortable and very quiet when all the windows are closed. We would stay here again!!
Everything was perfect. The receptionist was very lovely, friendly and helpful. We were impressed and enjoyed our stay at this lovely boutique hotel. Room was excellent, spacious snd clean. Superb view from the balcony. We will stay here when we visit Zermatt :)
Everything!
The best trip I had to Switzerland
Combination of both best stay and best views. I love this place.
The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way made great by the young team who left no chance to make our stay more comfortable.
Cosy alpine- style boutique hotel right on the bus line which will take you into the heart of Zermatt. Very clean and updated - love the heated bathroom floor. Delicious and filling breakfast with kind and friendly staff.
The location is spectacular, looking at the Matterhorn right from my room! The staff was very attentive, and friendly. I would stay here over and over again, I think it is the best hotel in Zermatt!
