Friendly staff, comfortable beds, very solid breakfast service (with separate but still great dinner service to match at the same restaurant) and an excellent location with a view onto Kirkjufell! As a bonus, Grundarfjordur's a great town with easy driving access to lots of sights and hikes.
This family-run guest house is situated in central Grundafjördur. It offers free parking and brightly decorated rooms with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV.

The view outside was awesome. We had a private bathroom and use of a communal kitchen. This is a very remote area and we were grateful for the accommodation.
With sea views, Skjólsteinar is located in Grundarfjordur and has free WiFi. This homestay is located on a farm with farm animals living on site.

If you're looking for fancy accommodation with new furniture and lots of space, this may not be suitable for you. However, if you're interested in meeting locals, this is a great opportunity. Some reviews mention the smell of horses in the house, but it's not like the house is filthy; it's most likely just some rugs or shoes in the hall (if you have a dog, they're probably the first thing you smell in your hall). I should mention that our room was clean and odor-free. The kitchen is small, so I wouldn't recommend any big cooking. We spent just one night here. We cooked some pasta, took a hot shower, chatted with the house owner (a nice guy), and got some good sleep - perfect for this purpose.
Set on a farm 8 km from Grundarfjördur, this modern guest house offers a 9-hole golf course, plus free Wi-Fi and parking. Snæfellsjökull National Park is 40 minutes’ drive away.

View was outstanding, as was the breakfast. Our host offered us a cup of tea on arrival and was happy to engage us in general chit chat. The view from the bedroom offered us a chance to watch the sunset over the sea and from the breakfast room there is a panoramic view of the mountains and sea.

Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. We stayed here 4 nights so we would have time to explore and I'm glad we did because one day was too stormy to see sights and another day wasn't optimal.

Destination port for cruise ships, correspondingly temporarily overcrowded. All pilgrimage to Kirkjufell (known from social media), which is accordingly overcrowded. Deterrent example of Icelandic mass tourism. :-(

Definitely not worth the extra drive time, town is not set up for tourists at all, hotel was 350 euros, which was very high compared to all other night on our trip. We spent the same, but had much better accommodations. Much more to do in the other towns

The town/village itself is really quite sweet. We didn't spend much time there, but we did drive in to use the grocery store and walk around a bit. Kirkjufell Mountain is really quite stunning and one of the most recognizable Icelandic landmarks. You can just sit and look at it all day.
For such a small town, Grundarfjordur is packed with loads of hotels, guesthouses, shops and places to eat. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

This small mountain gets a lot of positive press and yes, it's kind of cool but really not all that great. We were trying to find it the last time we were here (three years ago) and drove right past it. There is a parking lot on the left as you are leaving town and you need to park and get out for the mountain to "look" like it looks in the pictures you see everywhere- with the waterfalls, etc.
There are numerous sights around Iceland that make this one look like a joke. Still...stopping for 5 minutes to get a picture or two will be worth it but you won't look back on this one and remember how awesome it was.

A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain!
A gorgeous setting next to Kirkjufell Mountain! It is a very convenient base for exploring the Snaefellsness peninsula. Dont miss the wonderful restaurant, Bjargarsteinn Mathus, where our meal was truly exceptional.
The loaction of Grund was perfect for our needs and as a simple guesthouse in rural Iceland we were overall very impressed with the accommodation. The staff member who checked us in was very friendly and our room was clean, comfortable and made use of shared bathroom facilities. We never had any issue getting use of them when required.
Grund is entirely self catering with no restaurant facilities but they did offer a very good kitchen area where we were able to cook our meals. Everything was very clean and ideal for what we required.
Fantastic position with views of Kirkjufell and a great big fully equipped kitchen for cooking in with crockery and utensils supplied. Our room was big and sunny and very clean. The free voucher for coffees at Valeria coffee roasters was the icing on the cake as this columbian owned cafe had the best coffee in Iceland! Super friendly and helpful hosts who helped us with information on road conditions ( which were treacherous when we visited early April).
What a clean, well designed, charming apartment space! The bed was extra comfortable, the bathroom spacious and clean, and the kitchen/living room space had everything guests would need in order to have a comfortable extended stay in Grundarfjordur. The host was lovely, and the check-in instructions were very clear for our arrival. We loved the view of the ocean from the entrance door. Would highly recommend to other travelers.
The location is excellent. On a clear day or even rainy day you can look across the ocean to see the beautiful Kirkjufell peak. It’s located only 10 minutes out of town (Grundarfjordur) and right by a scenic golf course. We stayed in the duplex cottage which was clean, cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful as well. I would love to spend more time here but our travel plans are taking us elsewhere.
It was the most amazing accommodation we had in Iceland during our 7 day trip. A room with large windows and a view directly on Kirkjufell, we even managed to see northen lights in this area, which we were happy because we did not have a chance to see it anywhere else. the shared kitchen is very well equipped, there is a town with a shop nearby, check-in was easy and hassle-free, thank you
This property was incredible, the views were beautiful and you could see Kirkjufell from the window of your hotel. I would recommend this property to anybody looking to stay in this area. The only quality choice for your money. The owners of the property are also good people, they returned my headphones that I left behind. They were kind and courteous the entire time. 10/10!
The most delightful lodging of our entire 10 night stays in Iceland. And they have all been good. It's an adorable guesthouse with a spacious shared living area and kitchen. The bathroom provides ample space as well. Not so tight, like many places. I highly recommend staying at Eidi Farmhouse if you are staying on the Snæfellsjökull Peninsula.
The B&B was very conveniently located/easy to find. Instruction to access room keys was clear and concise. Rooms were quite comfortable with blackout curtains for the long summer hours of light. Bathroom was large. Attached restaurant served a tasty menu and the hosts provided excellent customer service at the hotel and restaurant.
Very good location if your are staying in Grundarfjordur. Rooms are very well equipped with small fridge and small cooking facility. The view from the room was spectacular with mount Kirkjufell and the see directly in front of us. We met one of the owner down stairs a very pleasant guy but otherwise no other staff.
Located 7 mins from the beautiful Kirkjufell and you’re within walking distance to a few good restaurants and bar spots! you can walk along the water for a nice view. the hotel is adorable and provides the perfect amount of space. The owners were so friendly too. Very affordable for the location and amenities.
The location is the best. The little town is like a paradise. It's the most beautiful.
The apartment is nice and modern, very well equipped. My teenage daughter commented it's like straight from the Pinterest. We stayed 8 different places in Iceland. This is our favorite. Wish we could stay longer.
Asthildur and Jonni are a lovely couple. Our stay in Grundarfjörður was one of the highlights of our journey in Iceland. We particularly enjoyed our exchanges and the appartement was beyond our expectations. We highly recommand Bjarg Apartments and the town has everything you may need.
very neat rooms with private bathroom. location is great with some sea view rooms a plus. a shared kitchen has ample tables. I recommend this hotel for a group travellers that has economic values and also comfortable stay as well.
Large rooms, warm and well appointed. A huge kitchen with actual ground coffee and three ways to brew some (Italian moka, French press, percolator) and great views of Kirkjufell. Also good value for Icelandic standards.
Great fit for us as a family of four. Nice to have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms and a well stocked kitchen. We weren't here long, but it was perfect for our Iceland trip needs.
My favorite accommodation in Iceland during my past 36 times traveling in Iceland. It's too comfortable to let you prefer staying in the villa than going outside.
