The centrally located Pohutukawa Lodge is an 8-minute walk from Whangarei's town centre. It is 5 minutes' drive from Whangarei Events Centre and Toll Stadium (Semenoff Stadium). Whangarei Airport is a 15-minute drive away. Room was comfortable and available at short notice for a single night stay in an emergency.

Avalon, in a tranquil garden setting, offers self-catering cottages with free Wi-Fi and balconies overlooking the valley and the Puketotora River. It features a chemical-free outdoor swimming pool and spa facilities. The grounds are extensive, well cared for. Lovely gardens. Sauna, hot tub, spring fed pool, laundry facilities. Mike and his family were very welcoming.

A fridge and kitchenware are also offered, as well as a kettle. At the chalet complex, the units include bed linen and towels. Steve the host was great, very friendly, brought his highland cows down in the morning for me to meet. His dog Aggi was also very sweet, hung out with me for a while on the porch. Highly recommend this retreat.

Situated just 20 km from Opua Forest, FOREST WATERS features accommodation in Haruru with access to a garden, barbecue facilities, as well as a shared kitchen. The property itself is stunning, offering rooms that are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The location is superb, only 12 minutes to the city yet providing a peaceful retreat. The breakfast is extraordinary, offering a wide range of delicious options. However, what sets this place apart were the host. Delphine and her husband went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and memorable stay, making you feel right at home. This place is well worth the visit and I highly recommend it.

A private entrance leads guests into the apartment, where they can enjoy some chocolates or cookies. The accommodation is non-smoking. We were two couples travelling and had a super comfortable stay with Jan and Chris. They are truly amazing hosts and really make you feel so welcome. There’s a huge garden to explore and it was so lovely and relaxing. Thoroughly recommend.
