Everything! The most loveliest hosts, felt really like spending the stay in their family. Since vegan dinner options were rare in Iiyama, the host lady prepared a vegan vegetable stew and tofu as a side dish just for me and we had dinner together at their family kitchen table. ♡ Though communicating in English was a bit difficult, the 3 of them made an immense effort to communicate with me via Google translate - loved and enjoyed learning more about Iiyama, their life and Japanese culture so much! Also, met their lovely daughter Natsumi again by accident in Nozawa at Haus St. Anton a few days later which was lovely! :) Thank you for everything!!!

Outstanding breakfast and dinner. Private Onsen was wonderful. Loved being so close to the Monkey Park. Staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Really nice and friendly staff. Nice and clean rooms. Generous breakfasts and dinners with daily changing menues - the wagyu meat was especially good! Private spa with finnish sauna, steam bath, onsen water, cold bath, outside area and even a massage seat and included drinks was bookable for a small fee. Free coffee and tea available in the lounge (tea also in the room). Convenient shuttle service to the train station.

Akira and Yumi were exceptional hosts, super friendly and polite. The ryokan was even more beautiful than in the pictures. The private onsen was wonderful and we were able to go there whenever we wanted. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Akira and Yumi were also able to cater for my multiple allergies which amazed me. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the river. The sound of the white water was relaxing.

It was wonderful stay! The owners are very nice and attentive! When you want to experience pure traditional Japanese living, come to this beautiful small Ryokan! I overlooked that the rooms don't have private bathroom - the bathroom is in onsen bath and it is private when you are inside.. and if I have known that, I wouldn't booked the stay, but at the end, it was brilliant experience - very comfy, very extraordinary and still very clean!

Located in the centre of Shibu hot-spring area and a 5-minute drive from Yudanaka Train Station, Sakaeya offers Japanese-style accommodations.

A truly wonderful experience start to finish. We booked the twin room with private external bathroom (i.e an outdoor relaxation area with a hot tub fed from the hot spring water). When you walk into the room you feel instantly relaxed. Supreme luxury and comfort. Our breakfast and dinner were included, and it was absolute fine dining, some of the best food we have ever eaten (served up in our own private dining room!) The service was second to none, we felt absolutely spoiled every minute of our stay. An unforgettable experience.

Every single moment was perfect. The facilities (all of the private onsens!!) were fantastic, the staff was simply oozing with kindness, and our room was out of dream.

The dinner and breakfast were amazing, excellent service all around from check in to check out, free shuttle transfer from the Yukanada station and to the Snow Monkey Park. The river view is stunning and within walking distance to Shibu Onsen.
