The service was beyond excellent. I cannot commend the staff enough for their kindness and commitment to making sure we were fully taken care of. In particular, the gentleman who speaks English, he made sure to always check in with us / follow through with whatever we needed. I also loved the fact that there are private onsen rooms, AND private indoor / outdoor onsens available for booking (since both of us have tattoos).

stayed for 2 nights at this place and it was one of the best experiences on our 3 week trip to Japan. The house is owned by husband and wife who works at the place. We had the whole house to ourselves 2 people. The house is situated 6 km from town and is a traditional Japanese onsen next to a waterfall. We felt very welcome and the family went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The food was some of the best we had in Japan cooked traditionally by the fire in the house and served in the dining room. The family drove us forth and back to the train station, and when we went hiking on the Magome - Tsumago trail, and took us to the festival in the town. If you are in for a real Japanese experience- we can’t recommend this place enough.

This was my second stay at this beautiful place, and I hope to be able to come back many more times! This is such a quiet and tranquil place, onsen is superb (and probably my favourite feature), food outstanding, and the staff - from maid to driver - will go above and beyond themselves to make your stay unforgettable.

Located within 14 km of Muku Hatoju Memorial Museum and 21 km of Achi Shrine, Fudouonsen Sawaya provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Shimojo mura.

It is a wonderful Onsen hotel in the heart of Nagano. The people working there a wonderful, helpful, the politeness is beyond every standard, even for Japan. Amazing typical Japanese ryokan but very modern and luxurious. Amenities were great especially the onsen (natural bath) with an outside one very great. Food buffet was also very premium for diner and breakfast. Easy to access by bus or car, they also organize shuttle bus. Really recommend.
