Boasting a garden, terrace, shared lounge and free WiFi, The Guest House Japan Hakuba is situated in Hakuba, 2.8 km from Hakuba Iwatake Ski Area and 16 km from Hakuba Cortina Ski Area. The property is around 700 metres from Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal and 1.2 km from Happo One Ski Resort. You might see the incredible ratings for this property and think “Surely that must be some sort of exaggeration.” I can confidently tell you after staying with Chikako and Koji-San that they deserve every star they have and more. The hard work and care they put into the Guest House and customers can be felt through every nook and cranny of the property. You can tell that they care deeply about the guests and have a passion for hospitality and high level of service. I was picked up by Koji-san from the bus terminal to the Guest House where Chikako welcomed me and showed me the premises. I was traveling solo and booked a female dorm room, a cozy traditional room with tatami flooring. The property also has a great hot bath that rejuvenates the body after a day of skiing or snowboarding. You can put down your name on a whiteboard for breakfast time and which slope you would like to go to. In the morning Chikako made breakfast for all of us that consisted of eggs, toast, bacon, coffee, cornflakes, yogurt, orange juice; everything you need. Then Koji-san drove me to the slope of my choice and even picked me up after. I couldn’t have wished for better hosts, they made me feel so welcome and safe that I will definitely come back again with family and friends to show them this wonderful hidden gem in the Japanese Alps.

26 km from Takato Joshi Park in Komagane, Hotel Yamabuki offers accommodation with access to a sauna, hot spring bath and public bath. The property features mountain and garden views, and is 43 km from Canora Hall. The ryokan provides rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi.

You can play tennis at this 3-star ryokan, and the area is popular for skiing and cycling. A baby safety gate is also available at the ryokan, while guests can also relax in the garden. This is a traditional ryokan and therefore it’s important to assess it on its own terms. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it is a lovely place to stay. The staff were wonderful, our room was huge and comfortable, the onsen was beautiful and the food was outstanding. I loved the traditional yukata and samue they provided, and the beauty products in the onsen were great. The location is very good- an agricultural town with fields surrounded by mountains- but it is next to a road so it’s not the most scenic. That said, it is very close to an amazing shrine that is one of the most beautiful holy places I have ever experienced.

Situated within 5.4 km of Matsumoto Station and 7.3 km of The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, Tomareru Himitsukichi L-Base features rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Matsumoto. Both free WiFi and parking on-site are accessible at the holiday home free of charge. This 3-star holiday home offers private entrance. What a fun place! It was so pretty, decorated with lights at night and the property was really lovely. If we had planned a lil better we’d have loved to try the mini train on the property. Speaking of it’s great for kids! Our lil guy loved the hammock swing in the room and the futons were comfortable. Everything was very modern and high tech. If you need something you can go to the lil building and grab any amenities you need. Often a person will appear to offer help though much is pretty self serve. So cute the checkout process too. This would be a great place to stay and enjoy the property. You certainly can just use for sleeping too though, it’s close enough to a city bus or you can use taxis to get downtown it’s not expensive or far. We enjoyed being a lil rural in country away from the hustle personally. There was a lil park for our kid too very close. There was helpful info for us in a binder too. Great fur first timers to area and Japan! We would definitely return.
