First things first, Denis, our host was absolutely fantastic and accommodating for us to check in late so we can enjoy the lovely weather. He also gave us really good trail recommendations since our plans to do the Crossing have been cancelled. The room itself was big, clean, comfortable with a huge bed and new facilities in the bathroom and kitchen. The shower was a delight! And to top everything, there is a hot tub to enjoy after a long day of hiking. Best place in NZ so far.

Some rooms have a bathroom with disability access. The room was super spacious and comfortable! This was my first time staying at a motor inn/motel of this kind, and I was quite impressed at how comfortable it was. The location was also very convenient, only a short walk from a bus stop that goes all the way to Massey University, where I had my conference at. The staff was lovely, I was allowed to check in early as the room was already available for me. The kitchen was also well-equipped, although it lacked a proper cutting board, if I remember correctly. But I didn't have to cook much anyway, so it was not a big problem.

Burwood Motel is a 10-minute drive from Wanganui Airport and a 7-minute walk from the banks of the Whanganui River. Kowhai Park is a 3-minute drive away. Newly renovated and nice bathroom. Size is great, I had everything I need and great place to stay in Wanganui. Staff is super friendly.

The highest hotel in New Zealand, Skotel Alpine is 10 minutes’ drive from the Whakapapa Ski Fields. Tongariro Alpine Crossing is 20 minutes’ drive away. Amazing location with the best view straight from the bed. The hotel is a little outdated, but everything is extremely clean. Room was really spacious, bed very comfortable, there was kettle and the fridge also. Restaurant serves very good meals.

The Ruapehu Park Hotel is at the foot of a large ski field and volcano at Mt Ruapehu. It is surrounded by two other famous mountains Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. Absolutely amazing location, great rooms, great food.

The Lodge is well situated to hike in Tongariro National Park. We also really enjoyed the fact that the kitchen was well equipped! We wouldn’t hesitate going back!
