The largest city in the Champagne-Ardenne, Reims is inextricably linked with this region’s famous sparkling wine. In fact, the city’s symbol - its huge Gothic cathedral - has a window depicting the monk who invented champagne: Dom Perignon. This coronation cathedral of French kings for around a millennium also has stained-glass windows designed by Marc Chagall.
A mosaic detailing champagne production also features on an Art Nouveau building with a barrel-shaped door on Rue de Mars, next to the 17th-century city hall.
But it’s the Reims champagne houses that are stars of the show. Many big brands are headquartered here and some including Pommery and Taittinger offer cellar tours in their underground chalk caves. You can also visit Veuve-Clicquot by appointment. Of course, no tour would be complete without a champagne tasting session, so you may leave feeling a little heady.
As you’d expect of such a prestigious city, there’s no shortage of restaurants, bars and shops including Galeries Lafayette and the Espace d’Erlon shopping centre. Tree-lined Place d’Erlon is considered the heart of the city and is home to the Reims Christmas markets.
Paris Orly Airport is the closest, so chances are you’ll arrive by car. See Booking.com for a great range of Reims accommodation that include parking.
We find Reims always a safe environment to wander around.
We find Reims always a safe environment to wander around. A little bit for everyone. Good shopping, good restaurants and an excellent market on Saturdays.
There is an awful lot to look at but just sit and people watch with a glass of champagne.
Reims is good for just chilling

The town has some very nice older French architecture and is very walkable. You can find everything you need within a few hundred meters. We didn’t use public transportation but we saw trams, buses and the rail station is an easy five minute walk.

The cathedral was beautiful and our cellar tour was fun.
The cathedral was beautiful and our cellar tour was fun. We found the main square / fountains and took the tram for a trip around and about. It was all very lovely with more than 1 glass of champagne to help things along!

Nice city that can be toured in 1 full day.
Nice city that can be toured in 1 full day. The main attraction is the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Make sure to take the Pommery tour champagne experience (no need to do Villa Demoiselle). Also make sure to visit the automobile museum. Have dinner or lunch around the Place Drouet d'Erlon (which is 5 min walk from the main train station). You can also visit the Basilique Saint-Remi (10 min walk away from Pommery).

A very good place to stay for Champagne lovers and to use as a base to explore the region and is not too far from Epernay by car or train. It also has some very fine examples of Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture. The cathedral is not to be missed and the Crayères at Ruinart an UNESCO site

Perfect place for a city break.
Perfect place for a city break. A lovely city with a beautiful Cathedral and local church. Excellent shops, good balance for all budgets. Wonderful, traditional bistro/brasserie French restaurants.
Great city vibe with lots of entertainment, night life and wonderful cafes.
Check out the boulangeries and local cafes. Excellent cakes and pastries.
Lovely people, happy to speak English if you don't speak French.
Staff was friendly, super charger was directly next to property, could use 1&2 more facilities outside on their huge property for kids but at least they had something already. Kids corner was cute, suggest that the amount of toys be reduced but have a more complete collection of each. Or else the toys are all mixed and incomplete sets, so nobody can really play with anything.
Breakfast was a bit of a wait, but the quality and selection was better than other Novotels we visited in France on this trip.
This apartment hotel is suitable for a short visit of Reims. In a few minutes walk, you are in the spacious park (Les Hautes Promenades) bordering the centre. Our apartment was bright, and most importantly, the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had most equipments you need. Additionally, the staff were friendly and helpful. The parking facility, which costs 8 euros per day, is very convenient with the lift taking you from the garage to your floor.
Nice hotel on the outskirts of Reims - downtown Reims is about 15 mins by car. There are many reasonably priced car parks in central Reims and driving in wasn't a problem. There is a bus stop very close to the hotel taking you downtown but we didn't use it. We had a family room - it was a very good size, very clean, and very comfortable. The staff at reception was very welcoming and helpful. 10/10
We were in room 925 and the bedroom was newly renovated and a great size with all the amenities we needed plus an amazing view of Reims Cathedral. The indoor swimming pool and sauna was perfect for us and we used it each day of our stay. The location was right in the middle of town and 5 mins from the train centre so you couldn’t be in a better position. Lovely hotel - would recommend.
excellent location - no more than ten minutes’ walk to centre of town. semi-secure multi-storey car park immediately adjacent to hotel (€16 for 15 hours overnight). very clean. unusual but quirky and fun decor. very comfortable bed. welcoming Reception. ideal particularly for a nightstop in Reims.
Perfect location for our overnight stay while traveling further into France. 24/7 reception allowed us to arrive and be received by friendly reception staff at 1am. Small, but clean rooms and ensuite facilities with standard, but substantial breakfast. Safe parking with security system.
The hotel was right in the centre of Reims, so perfect. No noise from streets below. Air conditioner. Shower and bathroom clean. Bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and the staff were very friendly and accommodated our lack of French. Would definitely return.
Beautiful large facilities. Bedroom, kitchen, living room, a deck. Modern. Well-equipped. It is a separate building from the host's house. Parking secure and simple.
Just outside the Reims' ring. Easy access. Easy walking distance to the old town centre.
Very warm welcome upon our arrival. also the hotel staff is very accommodating.
Very good breakfast, nice ambiance.
Very charming and friendly hotel, beautifully decorated, little walking distance from historic centre.
10 min by car to city centre, probably also in easy reach by bus / bike.
Relatively quiet. Breakfast is offered at about EUR 8pp.
The Mercure Hotel next door has a nice restaurant/bar.
Champagne tastings nearby.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, kindly reserved us a car parking space as we arrived in our campervan. Location was good, about a ten minute walk to Reims centre. The hotel was clean and had a 24 hour lobby.
Nice breakfast; comfortable room and beds. Staff was very helpful and friendly, Nice lounge/bar near entrance. Would stay here again if we ever come to Reims. In walking distance to main attractions in Reims.
The hotel literally faces the Cathedral and was perfect for the exploration on foot of Reims. The hotel has the air of luxury with impressive reception and hidden snugs for reading, drinks or relaxation.
Good location - shopping centre next to hotel with good bus service into centre of Reims & easy access for route to Calais. Clean and well equipped room. Friendly staff.
Very clean with very helpful and friendly staff . We were able to park at the hotel. A taxi was ordered by the hotel to go into Reims, although there is a tram nearby .
