It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

Axel and Daphne were the best hosts!! From the pilgrim send-off in the morning to the breakfast to the meditation/quiet/prayer room, everything was amazing. Perfect location - down a short walk from the pilgrim's office, and right near the entrance up to the citadel. The backyard is lovely, as are the chickens, and the whole space is just beautiful and welcoming. You can tell they put a lot of effort and love into it. Would recommend to anyone starting their Camino!
Lovely communal dinner offered and also breakfast. Food was simple but delicious. They went out of their way to connect the guests and set them up for a great Camino experience. The morning meditation was a lovely touch. This was my first experience of an Albergue and it was excellent. Great location.
This hotel was excellent. Meticulously clean, Marc was welcoming and helpful, right in the heart of town, beautifully designed, thoughtful amenities. It was the perfect place to recover from jetlag before setting off on our Camino journey and business retreat. Thank you Marc!
The location was fabulous, but the hotel seemed expensive for what it was. That may be because of the location. We got a good deal through Booking, but the price on the hotel's website was very high. Our room was comfortable with a lovely terrace and view. The bed was okay.
Catherine made my stay in SJPD and the beginning of my Camino so special. What an amazing host! She was helpful with advice, information, meals and restaurants. So very helpful. The hotel was excellent. Highly recommend this property and meeting Catherine!
great little hotel, right in the old town and really nice decor. loved the provided breakfast in the communal kitchen and the view of the Pyrenees from the terrace
Marc gave us fantastic recommendations of places to go before and after our stay
The lovely hosts, they welcome you and help you as they understand this is your first stay on the Camino and calm your anxieties about what to do
It’s in a great location and is clean and the snack bar is cheap compared to anywhere else
One of the best hostels/albergues I've ever staid in. The hosts, Pascal and Joe are simply wonderful people who will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Great hosts, great food, great accommodations.
This hotel is exceptional. There is great care given to every detail from the decor to the breakfast. The hosts were warm, welcoming and ready to assist us in any way to make our stay more enjoyable.
