Vibrancy, Vespas, Vesuvius
Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.

When we walked from the train station to the hotel we were filled with trepidation, much of the city is worn and dirty. However, the people were great and it was exciting to be there. We wished we could have stayed longer, just walking the streets was a thrill.

Avoid Cla.Pa Group when staying in Naples. The city is exquisite so do ruin the experience staying at such a bad chain of properties. I've written a LinkedIn review to help other travellers see how bad this company is https://www.linkedin.com/avoidclapagroup We do recommend Hotel Decumani De Charme, we recommend staying central as you can enjoy many cheap eats and so much is a walking distance. It´s a beatiful town, but you can see everything in one day. Tha spanish quarter is caotic, better not go by car. But it´s worth visiting, not dangerous. We got there by train, and it worked well. And then rented a car to drive to Amalfi Coast, the trafic is caotic, but you get used to it.

Public transport links are nearby for anything beyond walking distance. The room is really nice, equipped with all the amenities needed on a short visit to the city, plus a comfy bed of course.
