Dirty rooms and personel hanging stound in the evening with no shoes or socks is a bit peculiar, but the lavk of hairdryer and the time it took them to find one more annoying. Also no coffeor tea facilities in the room.

A more than century old mining town close to park, much cheaper than staying in the park. Small rooms in Yellowstone Park started at $400+. Much cheaper in Cooke City. Meals in Yellowstone Park are poor quality and expensive. You can visit several bars and excellent cafes in Cooke and Silver Gate, meals are still pricey but remember Cooke City is at the end of the road for supplies. We came for wolf (observed several feeding packs), saw moose, mountain goats, grizzly and black bear with 30 miles of our hotel so it was convenient to buy food and gas cheaper outside the park and be back in park in minutes. Park was crowded and overbooked so Cooke City was a quiet sleepy mining town that shuts down early so you need to order steaks early as they can run out on weekends. Bars are open fairly late; Silver Gate has a great 150+ yr old bar with summertime entertainment and food. Cooke City is a fun old town with buffalo and bears walking the streets after dark so keep your eyes open.

We rented side by sides and took them around the area which was incredible!! Highly recommend doing this, can’t beat the views and hidden gems! We were at the top of the mountain looking down at 6 different mountain lakes at once and then made it back down lakeside enjoying the views. The ride is rough at times but so worth it! And we saw a group of moose at the end of our ride!

Cooke city has a fabulous location.
Cooke city has a fabulous location. Accommodation is very basic and expensive. Bring your own food. It is so near lamar valley that it makes the effort both to come here and to stay here worth it. Don’t expect facilities though.

Quaint small western town with locally owned businesses.
Quaint small western town with locally owned businesses. No chain restaurants. Could walk safely any where. People are extremely friendly and helpful. Loved the town. This was my second stay. Restaurants/cafes were closing for their inability to have food orders delivered so they could serve customers. Very sad during the end of the season (last 10 days of Sept). But absolutely loved the elk chili & elk burgers! ! would have loved staying there in early Sept.
Perfect location to be in Lamar Valley fast. No long lines to get through the Northeast Gate. I recommend staying here to concentrate on wildlife of Yellowstone. Also close to the beautiful Beartooth Highway and Pass.

Beautiful drive in. Great views.
Beautiful drive in. Great views. I stayed end of season so it got cold when the sun went down. Lots of places were already closed up for the season, but it was still nice. I’m sure it’s better during season. I will definitely come to this area again and would be happy to stay at any of the several hotels I saw.
Great location only 5 minutes from the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Extremely clean. They obviously take pride in keeping the rooms nice. Excellent Wi-Fi. Pet friendly. Cooke City is a laid back community. Not overpopulated at all. Chad will always let you know what wildlife is in the area. He let us know where a grizzly with cubs was one morning. If you’re coming for wildlife viewing inside or outside the park this is the place to be!
we love the location of silver gate lodging. staying in a fully equipped cabin makes it really easy to prepare meals and have easy access to the park. we always see plenty of wildlife as well. it is only 3 miles from Cooke City where there are a few restaurants to pick from
Nice little room at a quaint but well maintained hotel, Western vibe, nice touch with flower pots hanging from the porches, lots of amenities available considering isolation of the small mountain village, best location to be in Lamar Valley early or late in the day
The location was the only thing we liked as it was in Cooke City, so very close to Lamar Valley for early morning animal sightings. The man who checked us in was also very nice. There's a great little coffee shop right down the street.
There was plenty of parking due to no one else staying there while we were there and we could park right outside our hotel door. It was quiet and peaceful stay. There was ample room in the suite and we didn’t feel crowded.
Property is poorly maintained. Worst to stay. Floors, beds ,rooms are dirty. They charge more but zero maintenance. Never seen such dirty hotel. Carpets are sticky and cigarettes were everywhere. Save yourself by avoiding
Soda Butte Hotel could have been fun. Nice lobby and lounge/bar/casino area structurally and as furnished but all of it was closed. Good location in a quaint very small town. Walked to a restaurant for dinner.
More than we expected, Cooke City is tiny but interesting and a good place to explore northern Yellowstone (Especially Lamar Valley). Beartooth Highway is an amazing experience! Motel was small and friendly.
Cooke City is the Talkeetna of the Lower 48, Northern Exposure all the way. In that context,
Elk Horn is perfect for a practical, one night stopover. Nice staff, clean, simple, comfy, fair value.
The location in Cooke City is excellent, and is very close to Yellowstone Park. Surrounded by magnificent moutains and foreats and streams. We loved the area and the little town.
Room was ok, a little dated, but fine for a short stay.
Location is good, close to Yellowstone and the surrounding area is beautiful.
Cooke City is very pretty little town
