Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it’s also the former seat of Maximilian
I’s Holy Roman Empire.
This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit alongside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.
The Hofkirche contains a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming, copper tiles lining its entrance.
Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope is Schloss Ambras, ex-residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, while the surroundings provide summer mountaineering, hiking and golf.
In winter of course it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessed by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied pistes means that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laidback and centred around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.
Amazing mountains. Lots of activities to do. The Innsbruck city card is such a bargain! The buses and trams are frequent and easy to use. Lots of food choices there too. Really beautiful city with small town vibes.

Innsbruck has a wonderful location: a charming, not so large city in the midst of spectacular mountains. The Hofburg palace is interesting, is nicely located in the midst of the city and adjacent to a wonderful imperial garden with beautiful old trees. The other main palace, Ambras, is also interesting. It is located outside the city, well reachable by public transportation and surrounded by a great, hilly garden. The picture galeries and ancient furnitures of these palaces do not reach the quality of the top European castles, but are historically interesting.
Public transportation is excellent. The city is very lively, quite touristy, but also casual, a good mix of local people and visitors. Nice cafes along the river and the main streets in the city center. We ejoyed the food of Il Convento and the Trattoria de due Sicilie. Reservations necessary!

Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in.
Innsbruck is a great city to spend time in. It has a huge variety of restaurants, and great shopping if that's what you are in to.
Public transport is excellent, and you can base yourself in the city and buy a pass that is valid for a number of city sites, the public buses, and 13 ski resorts which can be easily reached by bus.
There is a funicular railway up to Nordketter, Innsbruck's own ski area.
There is a very easy student/university vibe to the city at night: highly recommended

A relatively small city among the Alps.
A relatively small city among the Alps. The old town is absolutely charming and fully walkable, If the weather is good, a visit to the Hafelekar summit by the cable car Nordketten is not to be missed. Also, Swarowski World Wattens and Ambras Castle are at a 15 mins distance.
Day trips to Munich, Oberammergau, Bolzano, Kitzbuhel and Zell Am Zee are easy.
Very nice people - wonderfully welcoming and hospitable. They were always ready to help. A nice room with a cosy bed, and a good workspace next to the window so plenty of light. Fabulous breakfast. I enjoyed using the pool to help cool down after my daily cycle ride. The hotel is well linked to Innsbruck city centre by the tram - the stop is just a few hundred metres away - and it's free to visitors - so it was easy to come and go into the city without using the car.
We stayed for two nights at the hostel in a private room and had a wonderful experience. This place is in the old town, location is perfect to travel anywhere in Innsbruck. The staff is very kind, mindful and helpful. The hostel is lively, there is a bar/small cafe at the ground floor. Our room could easily accommodate 3 people, room size is decent (not too big or small), washrooms are shared and clean. There are cafes around the hostel as well. We had a good stay :)
Great location, on a hill with a nice view over Innsbruck. 10 min walk from the tram station - 20 min ride to old town every half an hour.
Large free parking available.
We enjoyed the sauna - free towels and bathrobes provided.
Good variety for the breakfast.
Although we booked for a room without balcony (cheapest option) we got a free upgrade to a room with balcony, which had a great view.
This was our second stay at the BW Plus Goldener Adler Hotel. The hotel is perfectly located just a few steps from the Golden Roof and right in Innsbruck's Old Town. Our room was not large but was fine for a short stay. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant one evening - the food was excellent and reasonably priced.
The location was exceptional - we were by the train platform within 15 minutes of leaving the hotel room. View was also exceptional. The design at the hotel (even the cheaper rooms) was exceptional. Staff also let us check in earlier when they found there was a room available. Will definitely stay there again when we come back to Innsbruck.
Excellent location, close to station and right on the river and old town. Easy walking distance to everything.
Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Delicious dinner at the restaurant. Hotel was clean, cosy and the beds were like sleeping on a cloud. Would absolutely stay again or recommend to anyone travelling to Innsbruck.
great location. it is near the old town, the river and the center. There is a small shopping mall on the left and a small playground on the right. there is a parking underground that has an entrance to the hotel and you can get a discounted price if you stay in the hotel. the rooms are fine with a modern touch.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Modern small chain hotel next to Innsbruck's main train station and bus interchange - worked well for overnight stay arriving by train and leaving for the airport by bus the next day. Great view from the top floor bar/breakfast area. Old town under a 1km walk.
Hotel was located on the edge of Axams 50 metres from the free bus to Axamer Lizum for skiing or Innsbruck city centre.
The room was exactly as the photos and the staff were all very helpful.
The spa was a real bonus and never crowded.
Breakfast was good. Especially the coffee machine.
"Walkable" distance from the train station and to the Old Town. My room was perfect for a relaxing time "up in the sky". And the view was heavenly. I picked Innsbruck for a relaxing time and this hotel delivers. Appreciated the tea kettle and the lovely scent of the liquid soap
Located right in the old town with a small but awesome view of the mountains from bay window. Included Innsbruck welcome card provides free transit everywhere you want to go outside the old town plus many other discounts. Good sized bedroom and living/kitchen room. Lift.
Great hotel in a convenient location in the centre of Innsbruck old town. The room was very comfortable and stylish but still had lots of historic features. Breakfast was superb and the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend.
The hotel is very chic and smells great! The beds were so comfortable! It is less than 10 min walk to and from Salzburg Hbf and a 15 minute walk to Old Town. The views from the big wide windows in our was breathtaking!
Really beautiful location, and just a short bus ride down the mountain into the Old Town of Innsbruck. I found the hotel very cute, with some nice facilities, and a really excellent restaurant serving great food
The hotel was close to train station. the Old Town, the Hofburg and the river. Staff was very accommodating. Cafe Central is next door and is a stunningly beautiful place for coffee, pastries or drink.
Close to the central train station of Innsbruck, a little bit far from the old town, but not too far. Like 20 minutes walking distance. Nice modern hotel with good mountain views from all rooms.
Great location in the centre of Innsbruck old town. Basic room but clean and spacious. Good breakfast. No parking on site but parking available just around the corner for €15 per day.
Nice place. Clean rooms. 15 mins walk to old town. Friendly staff (esp. Linda). Great Italian restaurant in hotel. Very good breakfast. Safe free parking.
