El desayuno estaba muy bien y la piscina riquísima
There is no reason to go to Liberia. It’s a transit point: to lovely beaches to the west; mountains and jungle to the east; and the Nica border to the north. That being said, the Chinese restaurant & the Indian restaurant (Masala) in the center of town were both very tasty! The international airport, which is close by brings in tourists traveling in the north of Costa Rica.

The streets are not marked so you can have a hell of a time finding your hotel if it is relatively small or unknown. It is close to a market where you can have breakfast. it is convenient to the airport.

We had to go all the way downtown for a bank machine.
We had to go all the way downtown for a bank machine. Information, such as bus scheduling was non existant at the station. You had to find someone who was familiar with the buses. There's not a lot of reason to stay in Liberia. It's more of a "stop off" due to the airport. Most eating places are downtown. There's not a great selection outside the core. Liberia is not a tourist friendly city.

Liberia is a good place to start traveling around Guanacaste...
Liberia is a good place to start traveling around Guanacaste and the Pacific northwest of Costa Rica..A good place to arrive as the airport is not as busy as San Jose. There are stores, including a large Walmart where you can get supplies. But I would not stay in the city except for 1 night when flying.

Liberia isn't a tourist town.
Liberia isn't a tourist town. It does allow you to see real Costa Rican life - which is the best part of travel. We walked all over town and always felt safe. It is also better to stay here than further north because you can catch tours that pick up travelers in Liberia.

I really enjoy Liberia.
I really enjoy Liberia. The downtown area by the park has lots of shopping. I went into a pharmacy and they had a free dr. who quickly diagnosed my problem and prescribed a medication that worked very well. There is a family run laundry with a half day turnaround. I really enjoyed a restaurant where the ceasar salad was made in front of you. It is two blocks from the main intersection on the right hand side of the road.
What would be very useful is a map of the city. We asked locals for directions and they were very helpful in directing us to what we needed.
We booked at Hotel Javy, and we needed a MUCH nicer hotel experience, and we needed a hotel CLOSE to the Liberia airport.
The Hilton Garden hotel exceeded all our expectations, and WE WERE THRILLED TO STAY THERE. For my family, and I … this was a little slice of heaven compared to the Hotel Javy.
+ the canopy of tree, and the birds …. STUNNING!!!!
I wanted to stay near the Liberia airport the night before my flight out, but the Hilton Garden Inn Guanacoste was full. The Hotel Santa Ana had an available room, which was utilitarian but clean. Probably saved over $100 by staying there, although that was not my goal. Played with a large dog and his basketball in the parking lot.
The staff speak good English and are very helpful. Almenia recommends good brunch restaurants, and always offering tips and advice. So is Alicia who helps me get a taxi to the airport.
The hotel has the ambience of a hacienda. Outside on both sides of the highway are many restaurants including the regular fast food joints.
This is a quiet hotel that is very low key even though it isn’t far from the main highway. The restaurant is basic but adequate. We used the hotel as a transition spot when arriving and leaving Costa Rica. We didn’t want to be too close to the airport or the bustle of downtown Liberia. Inexpensive, nice pool and grounds.
Very friendly owners. Made my friend and I feel very welcome. They helped us with all our requests and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. It was a few minute was to the supermarkets and 10min drive to the Liberia airport. There was no air conditioning but our room had two fans. Thanks
The breakfast was fresh and authentic. The staff were beyond friendly and made us feel like family. It was the coziest little oasis conveniently located near Liberia city, Rincón de La Vieja park and if you’re interested in visiting the beaches in guancaste you can make a day trip out of it.
We only stayed at this hotel for 1 night before going to the airport in the morning so didn’t have a chance to see much. Beautiful pool area. Large room with balcony overlooking pool was nice. Secure parking. Close to the airport. Left early so didn’t have a chance to try the breakfast.
I’m glad we didn’t book one of the large chain hotels near the airport for our one night in Liberia before flying home. Villa Hermosa has more local flavour and is family run. Very convenient location with a small supermarket almost next door and several options for food in the area.
Hotel del Rio is a small, family owned hotel/motel. it was great for our use for an overnight to get to the Liberia Airport early the next morning. It is in a nice residential area but not near the town center or any restaurants or shopping. There is a small, friendly cafe on site.
We stayed here twice when we were passing though CR to get to Nicaragua. It is super great, close to the airport and the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had!!! The family who runs it is sooo sweet. We will stay here everytime we pass through Liberia.
The people were very nice, and the location is good, near central Liberia.
Clearly the property was well rated in the past, and we prefer botijas hotels, yet the condition of the hotel likely differs from when those ratings were posted.
Super close to the Liberia airport but still quiet. Clean and confortable room. Free parking on premises. Good breakfast included. There is a nice pool at the hotel but we didn’t use it (it was nice and clean though).
20 min by taxi from
the airport. it is not new like Hilton in front of the airport nu for 1 night it is perfect if you arrive late. the hotel was not full ,quiete, clean and bed was ok !
