The guest house has a lovely feel that I’m sure tourists to the area will be very appreciative of. It’s tartan and shortbread, well mums cake anyway which was magnificent!
No 45, Ballater is a guesthouse set in an acre of gardens and is just 5 minutes' walk from the centre of Ballater. The individually designed rooms each offer unique charm.

First of all: Thank you so much, Alison and Les and Teddy!
ad breakfast: a huge range to choice from. The omelette was just unbelievable.
ad room: lovely, comfy rooms. The bathroom had even a bath tub. I slept extremely well because there was no noise.
It felt like home.
Alison and Les are wonderful and great hosts. And Teddy, the dog, is just cute.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

Ballater is a fantastic area, such beautiful surroundings with lots to do. Lots of walking and cycling options.
The town itself has beautiful buildings and architecture.
I love the area so much, I'm looking to buy a property and move there permanently.
Quiet and beautiful location but minutes from the quaint village of Ballater in Cairngorms NP. Martyn and Louise could not have been more welcoming. Our room was very spacious with a comfortable bed, a separate seating area, and all of the amenities, including plenty of power outlets throughout the room. Our accommodations included a private patio area and a very large bathroom. The welcoming treats and gourmet breakfast which included homemade baked goods were standouts in an exceptional stay at Craggan.
Had a lovely stay for 2 nights. The room was well layout, included all the amenities needed for a comfy stay. Great bathroom & shower pressure too. The location was good, quite, it’s within walking distance to Ballater & driving distance to sites around the area. Plenty of on-site parking as well. A Lovely couple who own the place, you can see they put a lot of love and energy into making it a good experience for guests.
My room and bathroom were exceptionally clean, as was the whole of the hotel.
The lady got up early, so she could make me an early breakfast.
The staff were so friendly and the food was great. Nothing was too much trouble - even during a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
I would definately stay there again. A lovely small hotel, right in the heart of the lovely village of Ballater.
Ballater is a lovely place, and this cottage is in a peaceful location. There is also plenty of parking on the large drive.
The cottage makes a great base from which to explore the local area. The cottage is spacious, and we loved that dogs are welcome. We would highly recommend a meal at the Fish Shop, which was recently opened by Queen Camilla and is fantastic.
Absolutely loved this accommodation and the host Helen and her employee Lisa! Enjoyed chatting with them about our day and having a good laugh. And the breakfast was the best we have every had! Kept us going all day! Highly recommend this property! If I am ever in the area again I will definitley stay here!
Amazing hotel and great experience overall. The hotel is beautifully decorated - very cosy and very Scottish! The bed was extremely comfy too.
The couple running it are very friendly, approachable and helpful. They have an adorable dog :)
The breakfast in the conservatory was great.
Lovely, spacious, renovated room with modern ensuite at the front of the hotel, with superb views across the River Dee to the mountains. Hotel is a 10-minute drive from the centre of Ballater and is an impressive Victorian building in a tranquil spot at Cambus O'May.
Looking for a place for a couple of nights for the Braemar Games. Good location outside of Ballater. Big rooms, handy kitchenette, great beds and an awesome shower kept us all happy. Great staff always offering to help
I hiked across Scotland for the TGO Challenge, and the Gordon Guest House was my one luxury stay during that effort. It was amazing - very clean, great food, comfortable bed, central local - perfect!
Stunning location, easy access to nearby walking routes and not far from Ballater. Hot tub was brilliant even in mid-January and couldn't believe how toasty the house stayed once it had warmed up.
Nice bar, decent modern rooms for an old hotel. Despite many shortcomings, it was acceptable and probably as good as it gets in Ballater. Venison pie was best meal I’ve ever eaten.
Breakfast - fantastic choice and great quality
Location - superb for exploring Ballater and abundance of local walks. Also well located for exploring this area of Scotland.
The dining room and lounge were nice, some areas of the hotel look like they have been redone already. The spa/massage was a nice little extra that we both enjoyed.
Perfect location to explore the town & surrounding area. Room and bathroom were a good size and definitely met my needs. Staff were very friendly and sociable.
The hotel is beautiful, the room was warm and decorated to a high standard. There is a lot of period furniture and you get the feeling of an old stately home.
Location for this space is great. Easy to walk into town for dinner and groceries. A lot of things to do around the area as well! Would stay here again.
