St Austell is a great base to explore Cornwall. The town isn't fantastic, but it's 5 minutes from the Eden Project, also 5 minutes to Charlestown , an historic and interesting harbour, Mevagissey is very near, and it's near to several beaches.

Many interesting places to visit. Lovely coastline with quaint villages. Mevagissey, Fowey, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden project are must sees! I shopped in St Austell itself. A good variety of shops, in interesting streets and lanes.

We stayed in Mevagissey which is south of StAustel. St Austel is not the best place to visit in Cornwall and is a little run down but there are promises that efforts are being made to improve its image and facilities.

the people are very friendly.the scenery is amazing and carlyon bay and charlestown are amazing.we chose to eat in the hotel because the food is fresh cooked and excellent.we dont drive so we used cabs which were a reasonable price.lots of places inreasonable walking distance.in my opinion there were no places or things to avoid.
Good size bedrooms and nice bathrooms. Wi-fi worked well for me and I needed to work while there so that was very important. Nice location with 15 min walk into harbour where you could find a few nice restaurants to eat in. Would recommend The Longstore for dinner, The Cellar for drinks and The Boathouse for a nice lunch in the garden. Good size Tesco and Lidl 3 mins drive and Aldi and Asda close by too. We had a nice chinese delivered from Chinese Wok - Saint Austell one night as well.
We liked the fact that the hotel was on the cliff overlooking Charlestown and Carolyn Bay. The hotel was a beautiful building with lots of comfy rooms and the dining area overlooked the sea. Breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice. Lovely bar area and outside seating. The food in the restaurant was also delicious. Good central property if you like a walk and can tackle the hills and rough paths. Great size car park.
The suite was extensive with a huge bathroom. Rather a bizarre configuration because it comprised various parts of an old house, but very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially accommodating our having breakfast in a separate room as we weren't feeling terribly well. The grounds were lovely, too. A lot of thought and work has been put into this hotel.
It was nice to have a friendly welcome on arrival. The hotel is lovely and quiet even though it's close to the town centre. I had a very comfortable, warm room and really comfortable bed I had a wonderful night's sleep and enjoyed a delicious well cooked English breakfast. Very friendly and helpful owner. I would definitely come again.
Lovely hotel in a wonderful location. I booked a single room as I was on my own walking and just needed a bed for two nights. The Reception team upgraded me to a very comfortable double room and I had a great stay. Staff could not have been more helpful and even my soaked, muddy walking boots in their drying room. Highly recommended.
excellent clean room , fantastic breakfast, lots of choices, superb meals if you want to dine in . . The room service was very good , always topped up with essentials and tidied up. Location perfect for rail and bus travel , just a three minute walk . Friendly helpful staff in a quiet hotel . short walk to shops , lovely church opposite
Breakfast was generous - and fresh fruit was lovely.
For evening meals, the Kings Arms is a short walk away, and does good beer and decent pub food.
For an alternative to pubs, try the Salty Bay Pizza place, a couple of miles away, and very nice pizza and salad
Good Town centre location, Car park very close by (Pay) Comfortable and clean. Close Wetherspoons pub, the only other pub worth visiting is the Western (West Hill) close to an ancient bridge. 5 minute walk to railway station. Ideal for those using public transport.
great spa not too busy and really warm in the pool. we enjoyed a really good breakfast on both mornings. The room was brilliant and even though we were out the hotel left us new towels and teas etc for when we got back. very impressed
Exceptional hotel and restaurant. Very clean and tidy. Rooms were large, well decorated and clean. Evening meal was fabulous. Great menu with great chefs and staff. Would recommend. Good value for Monday. Will definitely stay again.
So lovely. We’d stayed in 4 other hotels on this trip (full hotels) and this was our favourite. So well thought out. Clearly they are very proud and so they should be.
