The personal service and attention is absolutely great. Despite the hotel not being the newest anymore, we really enjoyed our stay and the room came with all the necessary (incl. portable heater). Unlike in other Peruvian cities we never had issues with hot water or the wifi, everything worked perfectly. The value for money is great!

Top experience in our Peru trip. The idea of sleeping in floating islands made of straw is unbelievable in itself but doing it in such a beautiful and comfortable way was just breathtaking. The host will personally take you on trips to the Uros community and explain all the intricacies of surviving and thriving in the community. The food is simple but delicious.

Puno is a great city.
Puno is a great city. I like the view on the lake and the Uros/Taquile Islands. I would go back in a heart beat.
The city itself is easy to access but due to higher elevation, I could only walk very short distances before being tired.

It is worth going to the lake in Puno since it is the highest navigable lake in the world and is also unique because of the islands made of reed. It was interesting seeing the lifestyles of the people living on these lakes. The food served as part of the tour was good, but getting to the restaurant was challenging since the climb up to the restaurant was quite steep. The overall experience was very good.

Access to Lake Titicaca, Uros, Amantani & Taquile islands.
Access to Lake Titicaca, Uros, Amantani & Taquile islands. The city itself is not very interesting, nice main square with a cathedral and few goods restaurants (Mojsa at the bottom of the Main square was really excellent, full of international travelers...). Did not have much time to climb on the nearby hills to have a panoramic view of the Puno & Titicaca. Spent two-day / one-night trip to Uros / Amantani / Taquile islands (overnight at Amantani with a local family), very interesting and very down-to-earth, but we all enjoyed the boat trip, Uros, dancing in local costumes & sunset from the top of Amantani (made it with our 8-year old daughter), as well as the next day at Taquile island. The following night we spent at Uros with Felix (Uros Amaru Marka Lodge) was excellent !

We wanted to come for the cultural experiences of the uro peoples but we saw a people who are abusing tourism to live. We were overcharged at every occurrence from transportation, housing, souvenirs, food etc. It left a bad taste in our mouths. We wish we would have spent time in other places in Peru.

Keep in mind that Puno, the town itself, is small. They don't have the artensans or activities that other large towns like Cuzco may have, so if you don't care to visit the floating islands of Uros, you may not want to make the trip.

It was twixt Xmas & new Year. Even so the place was buzzing.
It was twixt Xmas & new Year. Even so the place was buzzing. Markets galore and very well priced. Food was vaery nice in the restuarants.
Dont forget your ina toursit trap and it becomes more apparent as and if you go to the Uros islands. You will not be allowed tp leave until they have rinsed you of every penny they can get out of you -with minimal effort.
There is so much potential to do a lot more but I think the islanders have become lazy and just want to sell you trinkets which in all honesty are mass produced. The guide said they get most if not all oof their income from tourists. I can understand that, but at least make it entertaining rather than a tired old roadshow where they roll out the same thing time after time.
There is a nice promenade along the front with lots of wildlife.
Hope you enjoy.
Happy trails
My wife & I went to Peru for our honeymoon in July of 2021 and our stay with Valeria & Jose at the Lake Titicaca Marka Lodge was the highlight of our trip! The Marka Lodge is the most exquisite lodging available on Los Uros and Valeria & Jose are the most gracious & nicest hosts! We truly felt in the best of hands with Valeria & Jose. If you are going to the Puno/Lake Titicaca area, you MUST stay at the Lake Titicaca Marka Lodge. You will have the time of your life!!
This is a great hotel. It's located a short walk from the cute main plaza. The rooms have been very nicely decorated, including the bathroom that has a very hot shower with good pressure. It is very clean and quiet. The staff are very helpful and speak English. There are a lot of blankets for the cold nights. We would stay here again when in Puno. We had to leave early before breakfast, but it was in a nice restaurant style room.
Location was perfect! We had an excellent stay on the plaza for Puno Day at a great price - only $40 US and we could watch all the parades from our balcony. The were many great restaurants nearby and it was only about 15 min walk to the port. Taxis are easy to get around town and most are only 10 -20 soles. Food in the restaurant is great and breakfast is also excellent - staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
One of the best travel experiences we ever had. I mean ever, not only in Peru and we have traveled a lot! There is no better way to experience Titicaca than staying with a family who has lived on the floating islands for generations. Amalia Lodge was exactly that. Everything was carefully thought through, clean, nicely furnished, comfortable and very very tranquil.
We had an amazing experience staying with Isaac and Gladys. They gave us some insight in their day-to-day life. We received knowlegde about the usage of totora, fishing and about some of their costums. These nice people gave us the best accomodation in our journey through Peru so far. The meals, the people, the service and the view were all amazing.
What a gem! This property was exactly what we needed to rest and catch up in Puño for two days. We were able to do laundry, take full advantage of the nicely appointed kitchen and enjoy the very hot shower. Carola was extremely kind to us and answered every question we had promptly. Short walk down the hill to the plaza and restaurants.
Excellent place to stay. Amazing host who helped us so much with so many things, and problems mostly of our making! Very big and comfortable room. One of the best breakfasts we had in Peru. Very clean room and accommodation. Great bathroom. Comfy beds. Quiet. Good wifi. Great view from the roof. Walking distance to centre
Absolutely loved the stay here. We had best food and pisco sour in the whole Peru! The views are amazing. The owner was very nice and helpful. He took us on a boat around the island at the sunset. We stayed longer than we planned because we enjoyed it so much. Great place to stay at Titicaca Lake and relax.
This is a hidden gem. More of a hotel than a hostel. Spacious and superclean room, hot shower, and external heating in the room. I couldn't be more happy. The recepcionist was always kind and superhelpful. One of the richest breakfasts I had during my stay in Peru. You couldn't find a better place to stay.
The hotel is very central, just facing the main square of Puno, Plaza de Armas. The staff speaks English, which is not that common in Peru, even in hotels and other facilities for tourists. Good breakfast, good size of the room with another rarity in the Peruvian accomodation system: a heater!
The view from this hotel is absolutely amazing. Really stunning. It was so gorgeous to wake up to see the sun shining over Lake Titicaca from my bed. The hostess is one of the sweetest, most heart-felt people I have ever met. This hotel is extraordinary and made my stay in Puno worth it.
Hotel Balsa is a comfortable hotel close to the plaza. I gave the hotel a 10 because of the staff. Our tour operator failed to pick us up for a 2 day tour. Had it not been for the gracious young man at the front desk - we would have missed a tour of Cruz del Condor and the Colca canyon.
Great value for money in Puno. After 2 days on the floating islands this was exactly what we needed. Hotel looks new and clean, clean room, hot shower, heater in the room, thick windows to block street noise, close to the center and normal breakfast with the lake and city view.
Thanks!
The bed and pillows were super comfortable.
The hotel had an amazing view of the lake titicaca from the restaurant and garden.
The breakfast was very good and the food of the restaurant was also very good.
The staff was super friendly and respectful.
Very nice buffet breakfast that starts early ans that is tasty compared to what we experience in 2 weeks vacations in Peru !
The rooms are not sumptuous but all you could expect from the price ! Perfect location !
This is a wonderful hostel. Very clean, beds very comfortable, employees very helpful and friendly.
The breakfast is the best I've had in all of Peru. I really recommend this hostel.
