There is no beach in the bay. You have to travel further afield. It would be good to know when your chosen hotel/accommodation is on a steep hill. Cat Ba has a great little market, a few good restaurants, good foot massage and friendly folks

Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill.
Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill. There is good accommodation around and lots of eating place to choose from. You can also spend 8 hours cruising on the bay if you wish with lunch included. The cruise was very enjoyable. Oasis restaurant on the main street is a great place to eat, drink or have a cup of coffee. The food is great there. They have a pool table there and it's free to play. If you want to go to the beach, it's near the Flamingo Resort which is a 20 minutes walk to the left of the main road if you're facing the bay.

The full day trip on Lan ha bay with canoeing was exceptional - what a magnificent area, clear water, no rubbish and beautiful seascapes. The hike into the National park was brilliant and well worth the effort. Easy to do on your own without a tour. The two caves were well worth the visit. They organized the transfer of ours to the port to capture the cruise as well as rented us a motor scooter so we might fly all over the island for the morning.
