We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
This was our second visit to Bibi's Joy and we were not disappointed. It is comfortable, spacious and off the grid - no worries about loadshedding. Peter, as always, is a great communicator and will respond within minutes to any questions one might have. This year he added two rechargable fans for the bedrooms - this was great as our weather was a bit on the warm side. Bibi's Joy is very quiet, private and in a very natural environments. Great place to relax and unwind and yet be relatively close to Swellendam.
The Farm has soo many animals, our daughter loved the chicken, sheep, rabbits, pigs, horses... And of course the more wild animals like wilderbeast, springbok - and the giraffes! We could sit outside and watch the walk around the huge area.
The apartment was nice, clean and had everything we needed for one night.
Willie was very kind and let us harvest some carrots and strawberries. Can definitely recommend, especially when you're traveling with kids.
Loved the hosts, loved the property, loved the location!
our room was delightful especially the attached balcony overlooking the lush gardens. Oh and did I mention the delicious breakfast? fresh picked mushrooms, homemade preserves, fresh squeezed juice. hosts had great suggestions and made reservations for us for dinner and golf. also wanted to mention the City of Swellendam has a very chill feeling. safe to walk even at night.
Lovely setting alongside the river in a very quiet area. Very comfortable rooms set in a beautiful Zen Garden. No breakfast service but they did provide an excellent choice of food for a self catering breakfast. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful making Restaurant booking and making a great recommendation when it turned out our first choice was full
We had a fabulous stay at Aquaelberg Place. The room was clean, spacious and the bed so comfortable. Everything we needed was supplied. Nice quiet area. Beautiful garden with pool (loved the large trees). The hosts are such a lovely couple and they make the best breakfast!! Will definitely book here again when we pass through Swellendam.
Very stylish accomodation. Excellent pool area. Friendly pool guy who also washes your car.Excellent breakfast served on terrace. Generator backs up the kitchen to combat load sharing cuts.Easy walk to town and restaurants. The accomodation was beautifully and stylishly decorated. Both breakfasts and staff were delightful.
We always loved Swellendam.....this was our first sleepover. And now ....Mountain View will always be our choice....everything, from the perfect host to the romantic cottage, beautiful views, gardens, poolarea....we loved it. There is a hottub spoil as well, we didnt use it because of bad wheather. It is a special place
This was the most beautiful hotel of our holiday, wonderful room, very nice and spacious layout, opening onto the pool, perfect. It came with the most beautiful bathroom with huge walk-in shower, everything very stylish. very good breakfast. Can only recommend staying there Very friendly owners.
We were met by the owner Lizette who welcomed us warmly. It was lovely to spend the night in the oldest home in swellendam. The property is a bird haven. Birders that need to overnight would love it here. The room was great with a little kitchen. Coffee, milk and rusks was in the room as well
The property is located right next to the beautiful mountains surrounding Swellendam. The cottage we stayed in was both adorable and extremely comfortable. Our balcony overlooked the lovely pool area and gardens. It’s definitely the best spot to stay in Swellendam.
Great location in the heart of Swellendam, clean, and if it had been summer, a nice pool area. The staff were friendly.
We weren't too pleased with the arrangement of the rooms, but then, the price was very good, so we didn't feel hard done by.
Set in the picturesque mountains outside Swellendam, Frog Mountain Getaway is a nature lovers dream.
Cabins are comfortable and well equipped. Loads of outdoor activities.
20 minute drive to Swellendam along a well maintained dirt road.
Looking at the websites we had high expectations for this accommodation, however the only big positive was it's location. It is located in a beautiful area close to restaurants and museums. The reception staff was also very friendly.
Amazing Victorian house, well organized and maintained. the family that own the hotel really nice and must say that the breakfast was delicious! we didn’t eat dinner there but it looks pretty good as well.
I like the view of the dam, the rolling green hills, and the mountains. I liked the look of the cottage, how cozy it felt, and how clean it was. I also liked that they provided a functional kitchen.
Beautifully and nicely equipped cabin at the breede river.
Cottage completely off grid. Nice swimming spot, kayak and swing at the river.
