An interesting place to relax and discover the culture of the northern part of Spain, a safe city. Excellent cuisine famous for tapas/pintxos e.g. in the market in the city centre. Lots of parks and green spaces, friendly people. The Cabo Faro lighthouse is worth a visit, there are the beaches and their lively bustle, the Magdalena peninsula and the market in the centre of town, where you can enjoy a great meal. A handsome, friendly city which is undoubtedly underrated as a destination. Safe, clean, lots of varied sights, beautiful coastal walks right from the city centre. Inexpensive! Superb prehistoric museum. Bring a jacket / umbrella, it's cooler and wetter than elsewhere in Spain. Note: it is a very monolingual area: other than in hotels and the occasional individual in a shop or cafe, most people there speak ONLY Spanish!

This was our 3rd visit to Santander in 12 months. For £31 per person return flights from the UK, it is cheaper than staying at home.
Santander is a vibrant, fun and energetic city with plenty to occupy any visitor. The food options are to many to count and the bars are fun and friendly through the evening.

I saw lots of reviews recommending this town.
I saw lots of reviews recommending this town. It was not for me. The planetarium, which many raved about? Closed. Has been closed for a while, actually. And apparently when it was open, it wasn't open to walk-ins. Tour groups only, pre-booked, minimum of 5 people.
Many restaurants were reservation only, actually. Many more were closed.
Saw my first homeless tent encampment ten minutes after arriving in the city. Graffiti everywhere. So many ATMs on Google maps, marked closed. Shops closed or going out of business. "Rebajas" signs everywhere. So many multi-lingual beggars.
Lots of smashed windows, sadly. The town looked like some of the worse areas of other cities I've been to, but all over. Even the church, which was recommended as a very nice building, had homeless and beggars in it. I was there on Sunday (so many things closed) and Monday. For a place supposedly well known for it's meals of fresh fish, mine was bland at best. For a Spanish town, surprisingly few tapas places.

Santander is so quaint.
Santander is so quaint. The historic buildings are beautiful. There are so many bars, tapas bars and restaurants everything is so easy to find and within walking distance. It just felt so clean and just a lovely place to visit we will be back. We went to Bilbao for the day on the bus from the bus station, but pre book your seats as it’s always busy. It takes about 1.5 hours but well worth it then you can jump on the tram line into the centre
There were too many bars and restaurants to mention but the one right outside the hotel was wonderful too.

We used Santander as a base to explore prehistoric caves, historical sites and the surrounding parks. Six days barely got us started. I will say going in January worked well as temperatures were mild and rain was sporadic. We didn’t leave enough time to explore all the city but people were friendly, there were new things to see everywhere and the food is great.
The location - just a few moments walk into the city centre and a very pleasant 20 min walk to the El Sardinero beach area. Contemporary rooms with some lovely complementary touches - snacks and drinks.
The staff are incredibly helpful with their local knowledge and their English is impeccable.
Look forward to returning one day, maybe to the new property next door which is opening imminently and looks to be a beautiful building.
Well done to Jorge and his team. Exceptional customer service and a delightful hotel.
Lovely location on el sardinero beach. Great view from the hotel balcony. Staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking outside for our car. Rooms were big with plenty of storage space. We stayed 3 nights and had breakfast on the last morning. Would probably say not really worth €13 as was pretty much a cold buffet and coffee out of a machine. We had been to some cafes in Santander the previous 2 mornings and got fresh coffee and pastry for €3 euro each of better quality so would recommend doing this instead.
The hotel is located across the road from ferry terminal. Rail and bus stations are a 5 minute walk away. Very central location for shopping or walking on promenade. The Sardinera beach area is a 40 minute stroll away. There are plenty of buses going to beach area. All staff were polite, friendly and professional. We had a comfortable large room. The public areas are very nicely furnished. We have stayed in the hotel a few times and never been disappointed. I would recommend Hotel Bahia to family and friends.
When we arrived, the staff were absolutely wonderful. Telling us exactly where we could park a vehicle .Couldn't do enough for us. before visiting you, we stopped in two big luxury hotels, one of which in barcelona . Their facilities were OK but not what I would classify 5 star or whatever stars they like to call them. Where as your facility was 5 star to me and my partner . Arrive and find slippers and bath robes provided was a nice touch and well appreciate .
Lovely view of the beach. All staff at the hotel were very friendly and a good breakfast. The location was perfect for the beach. Bus stop very close to the hotel to go into the centre of Santander (€1.30) There are some great restaurants and bars near the hotel. The area prides itself for it's excellent food.
Cheap flight from Birmingham with Ryan Air which took only 1 hour 40 min and a 25 min taxi journey, great for a long weekend away.
Love the little thoughtful details, truly local products breakfast at the room, candies , drinks ..every detail was thoroughly thought of. I have been in many hotels in Spain, also with international scope and this is certainly the one where I most felt spoiled and that I cared as a guest. Right from the warm welcome including a drink. Room was new, neat , comfortable.. everything felt good!
Everyone in the hotel was so nice. It really makes a huge difference. Wally, who was at the reception desk went above and beyond to make us comfortable and he was so helpful. But the award goes to the lovely lady making our breakfast Mariana. She was so sweet and the day we were leaving, she even packed us a little Picnic bag for the journey. what more can I say?
Good, reasonably priced hotel with friendly receptionist staff. The room is a decent size with a clean bathroom and great water pressure in the shower. Super close to the train and bus stations as well as the art museum. Not too far from the beach if you don't mind the walk. Lots of cafes and restaurants around.
We were lucky enough to have been allocated one of the rooms with a balcony which gave us a splendid view over the roof tops of the bay and the mountains. The staff were very helpful and efficient and front desk were friendly and did as much as possible to help with parking which is at a premium in Santander.
What can you say Santander is a hidden gem Hotel and Staff were excellent close to the beach and some amazing bars.
Room was cleaned and a good size
Had a meal in the Hotel at night and it was outstanding Value for money and the menu was even in English
close to the beach El Sardinero, bakery next to the hotel - easy for coffee and breakfast, friendly staff, cleaning every day, toiletteries, good value for the money, restaurant nearby, vending machine for drinks and chocolate snacks
This hotel is centrally located and has excellent service. The reception staff was very professional. They treated us like royalty. I would definitely recommend this hotel when staying in Santander.
Very close to the centre of Santander and made for a good first night in Spain after driving off the ferry. Nice places to eat nearby. Parking close to the apartment for a good price.
