Staggs Cottage, hotel in Andover

Situated in Andover and only 16 km from Highclere Castle, Staggs Cottage features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking.

Jane was very welcoming and accommodating. A well needed tea and biscuits were offered on arrival, followed by an incredibly relaxing bath in the immaculate bathroom overlooking the fields. The room was cosy and well furnished and the bed was very comfortable. All was spotlessly clean. The full English breakfast was delicious - my mouth is watering just remembering it! There was plenty of additional extra's offered such as cereals, yoghurt, jams, honey etc. For anyone who travels here without a car, bear in mind that it is very much tucked away. Whilst this is a bonus, being incredibly quiet and peaceful, it can be a challenge for any conveniences like takeaways or taxis. I naively thought (being from London) apps like Uber or Just Eat would work, but they are very limited. A list of services that do accommodate the postcode would be really useful. Even though I only stayed a night, it was very memorable. Thank you very much Jane!

Andover has pubs and bars, supermarkets and plenty of places to eat. There are enjoyable walks up to the Ladies Walk where you can see across the town and also to Charlton Lakes where there is a play area for kids. Andover is also close to Basingstoke, Salisbury and Winchester.

It is a quiet town very convenient for visiting Winchester, Salisbury, the New Forest, Newbury, Whitchurch and Southampton. Anton Lakes local Natural Reserve gives a good opportunity to relax sitting on a bench and watching wildlife birds. Don't forget to visit the local Iron Age history museum and beautiful St.Mary's church.

A quiet town, without much to see. The Anton River canal near the old mill and the Anton lakes are the only places worth visiting, the river has ducks and swans as well. The town has supermarkets, and a train station and the distances are relatively easy to walk, even with luggage.

Like so many towns, trade has been forced out and many cheaper shops move in. In does have regular markets. A good spot to go out to visit but Andover itself is not so picturesque as it shoukd be. I nice chalk river runs through which has not been enhanced. Such a shame. Indians,Chinese Wetherspoons and other pubs available. Went to the Siam Orchid. Very nice and booking might be necessary.

We visited Andover as were were going to the BSB round at Thruxton. There are lots of place to eat in Andover we opted for an Indian called Chilies, it was empty so were a bit worried but it is one of the best curries we have had in a while. Staff very polite and attentive. Can thoroughly recommend it. The hotel, Jack Russell Fox, which is a Wetherspoons pub chain was excellent. Staff and food were what you would expect. The rooms were clean and perfectly adequate.

Staff in this pub/hotel are nothing short of exceptional. I’ve stayed in top end hotels but every single interaction from booking in, getting a coffee or negotiating the corridor to our room was engaging and went above and beyond what I have became accustomed to with hotel staff. Very busy bar, staff at top of game and seemed like a constant cleaning regime going on in bar and rooms. 👍👍👍blackout curtains in rooms best I’ve seen and friends in two other local hotels complained about noise ours was practically soundproofed

It was a self check in and the property were very prompt to assist us with all the queries. The location is at the heart of Andover and there are many restaurants & bars around. With a large pedestrian shopping street. Paid parking is also nearby. We stayed here because of our trip to the Peppa Pig park , and we loved our stay. Would repeat without hesitation.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay in the John Russell Fox Wetherspoons hotel, Andover. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, lovely rooms with a fabulous shower and excellent value for money. The central location was perfect for us with just a short taxi ride to the train station. Would highly recommend a stay here for anyone visiting the area.

I stayed one night while covid restrictions applied. It was ideal as the hotel is right in the centre of Andover, which is pretty and full of pubs and places to eat. The room was plain, clean and comfortable. Didn't have breakfast as I had an early start. I'd go back.

Everything! The John Russell Fox was as good as many 4-star hotels I've stayed in. Okay, there aren't all the frills, like room service, etc., but being a 'Spoons', you'll not find a better brekkie in town anyway!
