Hydra is a wonderful place for scenery-gazing and long quiet...
Hydra is a wonderful place for scenery-gazing and long quiet walks (soundtrack: goat bells, cocks crowing and the occasional donkey bray) - past the monasteries, to the peak of Mount Eros, or across and a scramble down to Limnioniza Beach which we had entirely to ourselves... Our two best meals were both at Techne, where the food is technically accomplished, harmonious and subtle. Jeff Koons' Apollo Wind Spinner at the Deste Project Space Slaughterhouse is a fun diversion on the road to Mandraki. And the many cats seem by and large in good health and well tended thanks to Hydra Ark.

Charming island in a 2 hour ferry ride from Piraeus. Lots of waterside cafes and other restaurants in the center. Nice easy walks along the water, or steeper hikes up the hillside. Many shops. A good place for relaxing.

NIce island. No cars. Beaches easy to access. Plenty o decent restaurants Sometimes Hydra Town gets a bit touristy mostly when the big passenger boats come in. The business goes when the passenger ships leave! Nice opportunities for walks outside town, beautiful environment. The town is clean and there are some small supermarkets to get supplies.

Pros: Clean, great food, many options, a lot to see. Good for walking, has small horses and donkeys for transportation. No cars. Everything in walking distance. Cons: many of the restaurants were not open (March 2024), while their websites said they were. Relevantly pricey. Ugly, monstrous yachts moored at the front of the little harbour. Expect tourists with an attitude - not very friendly.

The ground floor public rooms and the bedrooms all have beautiful antique furniture and artworks. It is very calm, inviting and elegant. Anna who makes the breakfast is a wonderful lady and the Greek spinach pie and fruit salad is fantastic. The front of house and all the staff are courteous helpful and very pleasant. The hotel is nicely located in town with a very short walk to the lovely harbor front. This is surely one of the finest hotels on the island of Hydra which I can highly recommend.

We enjoyed the many steps we regularly climbed to get there from the port, but were pleased we'd prearranged with the hotel for our luggage to be transported by mule. Our room was beautiful, clean, and the views superb. All staff were invariably friendly, positive and helpful. The excellent breakfast in the courtyard was a very pleasurable way to start the day. We look forward to the next time we can stay at this lovely hotel.

They don't do breakfast but there is a supermarket close by and a wonderful bakery around the corner. They have a lovely terrace where you can eat in the mornings and there is a kettle in the room which we loved. Our room was small but very adequate and the bed was very comfortable. The owner was very pleasant and always on hand to help we would definitely stay again and Hydra is just such a magical place .WendyIreland

Efie and her family took great care of us and gave good advice on what to see and where to eat. The hotel was easy to get to on foot, and a few steps up from a souvenir shop where you could find Efie or a family member to help out with anything. Hydra is a magical place and staying at Pension Efie added to the charm.JulieCanada

He gave us such a beautiful greeting and helped us with our Ferry Tickets during a time when they were storms and the schedule was a little tricky. The room is very clean and in very good condition. It was perfect for our short stay but would’ve been a little small for any longer period of time, but highly recommend this wonderful hotel and the wonderful man who owns it👍DeborahUnited States
