The HA Whitney Home was built in 1868, by the founder of the Columbus Canning Company. John's parents purchased it in the mid-1950s from the Albrecht family who were using it as a funeral home. After Mert & Frances Walcott purchased the home, Mert designed a pro photo studio to wrap around the northeastern sides of the house. John & Suzanne purchased it from them in 1976. The studio closed on 12/31/2023. In 2018 John, Suzanne, and family added the HA Whitney Inn, a Licensed "Tourist Rooming House". Included are: Self Check-In, Free Parking with motion lighting, Wi-Fi, 90 HD Cable Channels, Washer/Dryer, Continental Breakfast, Radiant Heat, a Comfy Cozy Queen Bed, Smart-TV, Large Walk-In Shower, Full New Kitchen, Garden View, All New Construction. and The Property is Non-Smoking.

The innkeepers are Suzanne Walcott who was born in Canada. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Greeley with a BS in nursing. She also holds a Master of Electronic Imaging and Photographic Craftsman degree from the Professional Photographers of America. She is a past president of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Suzanne and John have 4 children, 3 living and 7 grandchildren. John Walcott grew up in Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Photography School and Layton School of Art (MIAD). He holds the degrees of Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman. Suzanne loves working outdoors. John enjoys playing music, hiking, and fishing. He is the chairman of the Columbus Tourism Commission.

The HA Whitney Inn is a new lodging facility Conveniently located 1.5 blocks (2-minute walk) from the Amtrak station, restaurants, Wisconsin’s largest Antiques Mall, and historic downtown Columbus, Wisconsin. It is just 20 minutes from I 90/94, 35 min. from Dane County International Airport, less than 2 hours from the Milwaukee International Airport, less than 3 hours from O’hare International Airport, 2 hours southwest of Green Bay, and approximately 1 1/4 hours south of Wisconsin Dells and Devil's Lake state park and about 15 minutes from Dodge County Park at Astico. The HA Whitney House is located on the July 4th parade route. The parade is one of the longest in Wisconsin.
