Barcelon is a great place I simply LOVE IT!!! The architectures, the shops & the NIGHT LIFE!!!!! It has the best and the weirdest bars and clubs.. Catalonians like to spend more time at night so the shops doesn't close early like in Madrid.. Oh and don't forget to try Sangria (traditional drink) espicially in Barcelona..
I did not enjoy the days we spent in Barcelona. The Catalonia protesters beating on pots and pans at all hours of the night saw to that. It's a beautiful city but the political unrest made it hard to enjoy ourselves. Will not be coming back anytime soon.
Although I respect the Catalonian people, their culture and history, I do not wish to vacation and spend my time and money in a place that harbors such political unrest. I feel that in Europe, as in most areas of the world, unity serves the most good to the most people. Disunity, leads to weakness, conflict and economic depression. Thankfully, there was very little sign of the political crisis in Barcelona. I attribute this to the peaceful, kind and decent nature of the Catalonians, as I can understand their frustration with Madrid. So hopefully, a peaceful and equitable solution will be worked out at some point. Although I LOVED Barcelona, I will NOT return if the independence movement and/or the unrest continues. It is a beautiful country with beautiful people. I hope that they can work this out.
We initially hesitated to take the trip with young children, given the reports of widespread demonstration in the news - and so glad we kept our travel plans! The only downside of our trip was returning to a freezing weather back home from the gentle Mediterranean fall. There is an ongoing Catalonian independence debate, of course, but the city is peaceful and lovely. We explored Barcelona, traveled to the gem town of Girona by train, lingered in cafes and restaurants over delicious meals, and were warmly welcomed by the wonderful people wherever we went. A lovely trip to the lovely city!
Love it. Take a bus tour. Rambles not to be missed but watch your wallet. Get lost in old town. Visit the Picasso museum. It's a hidden gem. See the fountain light show. Park your car and leave it and use public transport and hood it. See Catalonian dancers. See Guell park. Will return for sure.
You can definitely do the main attractions in 3 days I highly recommend going to Monserrat Consider staying away from town center think about Eixample or Montjouc area not as much street noise Definitely beach spot in summer to fall Catalonian wines amazing try local spot tapas
Barcelona (Catalonia area) was wonderful. The people were kind, not too fast paced, still a fun place for young adult traveler. There were a number a great eats, I loved Tapas Locas. The history architecture and culture is so rich! If I could move tomorrow I would
Arenys de Mar is a nice beach village of many locals, but keep in mind that you should probably know some Catalan and definitely Spanish is a must to communicate with the locals and any stores/vendors you may visit in this town. My opinion is iffy when it comes to the local people, we have met some very very kind and welcoming Catalan people of Arenys de Mar and Arenys de Munt but also we have met MORE rude and uninterested locals towards Americans or English speaking people. They do not want to help you or communicate with you at all if you speak English. I hate to judge this town or the people because I believe there is some good in everyone and just because a person does not appear to be friendly on the outside does not mean they cannot be genuinely helpful when it counts but we have visited/stayed at this location for about two years now and recognize that this is not a place for outsiders or foreigners to Catalonia. May be that there is a political problems they are dealing with regarding their independence from Spain. Not sure? All I have noticed is that a smile or hello will not win you over to them—they will not acknowledge you.
Barcelona has unique gorgeous architecture. It is a very clean and visually attractive city. Gaudi put a beautiful stamp on the place in multiple areas. Day trips to girona/costa brava and montserat are also worth it. They have great tapas and paella. They love their ham. Beware the politics and avoid it. They are in conflict and would like to be independent of spain as state of catalonia. People are generally polite and friendly.
Barcelona is highly overrated compared to other cities in Spain, oops, I mean Catalonia. Pickpockets abound here feasting on the unsuspecting tourists. We were warned by taxi drivers, hotel staff, waiters etc. to beware. A couple in our hotel had passports and cellphone stolen one night. Having travelled extensively throughout Spain/Catalonia/Basque area we found Barcelona the least attractive place to visit. & easily the worst tapas culture.
Great location for travellers with car, the hotel has a lot of free parking around it, and there are many restaurants near it so it's not some a isolated place. so if you want a place to comeback at night after traveling around Catalonia it's a great place to stay in The views are amazing from the room as the pictures and the room is clean. AC works great. The wifi is good, not very fast but at least it is stable. All the staff members were very kind and helpful and can speak English
Exceptional place. New managers Alex and Gina started two months ago and they are so kind, welcoming and hard working. The hotel is beautiful, clean and relaxing. I stayed 6 days and this was my favorite hotel of all the places I visited in Catalonia. Alex gave me lots of great advice on where to hike and he and Gina also gave me great local knowledge on where to visit next. Protected onsite parking was great, and the pool is fantastic. 100% recommended!
La Bionda is a hidden gem in the city center of Begur. This location was perfect in finding something to enjoy the history of Catalonia, with many shops and restaurants easily walkable. The hotel inspired after The Grand Budapest has small touches that make you feel like you’re at home - welcoming spaces to hang out beyond the luxurious room accommodations. Carla and the team made our stay so personable, that we extended our stay by another night.
The room was lovely and I liked the Catalonian tile floors. It would have been more pleasant still if it were a bit larger and had a balcony, but the garden patio is nice. The house is beautiful. It's mainly quiet, but sometimes the cars driving by and the people walking up from or down to the parking lot could be a bit noisy. I liked the kitchen and lounge area. Leaving little croissants for the guests on the table is a nice touch.
Amabilitat, habitació impecable, ben situat, menjar bo i variat, tant el sopar com l'esmorzar. / Very kind staff, very clean and wide bedroom, breakfast and supper very good indeed. This Hotel is very good located to explore l'Escala and the north east of the amazing country Catalonia : Cadaques, Girona, Begur, Calella de Palafrugell, Monells, Pals, Peratallada, Banyoles Lake, Besalu and the volcanic area in La Garrotxa.
We enjoyed staying at Catalonia Albeniz. The facilities were clean and well cared for, the staff was extremely helful and friendly, and the hotel is located in a good neighborhood. The breakfast was amazing and we looked forward to it everyday. I swam in the pool a couple of times, which was small but good for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. We would certainly stay here again if we return to Barcelona.
Very beautiful hotel, small oasis inside the city. A lot of green space, very nice swimming pool and a lot of attractions for the guests like ping pong, mini golf, billard. The breakfast had a lot of variety and was very good. The hotel’s staff was very friendly, helpful, made us feel very comfortable. Big plus for being dog friendly without an extra cost which doesnt happen a lot in Catalonia.
The superior room overlooking the sea was absolutely bliss!!! The balcony was superbly positioned, we just did not want to move! The hotel is warm, typical Catalan hotel that has been operating for decades, where quality standards are still high, in food, cleanliness, comfort, and location. S'Agaro itself is one of the best summer resorts we have been in Catalonia so far.
Girona
La Granera is a beautiful holiday home on a breathtaking location. We liked the serene environment very much. The location is quite central in Catalonia: the Costa Brava, Pyrenees and the medieval Catalonian towns are all within 1-1,5h reach by car. On the premises of La Granera there are several roofed terraces providing shade on the hotter days or cover on the rainy ones.
The only 2 good things about this hotel were: - The room was completely soundproof. I couldn't hear anything from outside. (One exception, from inside of the hotel, there was music from the restaurant until 1 am, very disturbing) -The location was just perfect. In the heart of Catalonia. La buqeria, was very near, and you could enjoy fresh meals
The price was great compared to nearby hotels! It’s close to metro, los ramblas, plaza Catalonia, which is where the hop on bus starts and the airport bus stops. Stayed twice, both rooms were great, staff was friendly and helpful! Staff had advice for My stay and made storing bags before and after both stays easy! Have already recommended to friends.
Cambrils
Host Francesc was so attentive to detail and so kind, and a beautiful Catalonian welcome gift was left on table. I adored the apartment, clean and perfectly appointed, so many extras included, the kindness of a bottle of water in fridge, coffee pods, lovely balcony with lounger and beach deck chair, fantastic location near supermarket and strand.
I don’t usually give a five star rating but everything about this place was perfect. 8 minute walk to central Catalonia and minutes to Rival. Felt very safe. Boutique like hotel and just a great vibe. Loved all of the snacks they provided, from sandwiches to chocolates. Lots of thought went into utilizing the save in the rooms,
Hotel Centre Reus was absolutely perfect for my vacation stay in the beautiful & historical city of Reus, Tarragona, in Catalonia. The staff were so very friendly & informative, the suite was spotlessly clean and I had the most amazing balcony view overlooking the square and priory church of Sant Pere Apòstol de Reus.
Outstanding hotel! A very high standard. I have to emphasize the cleanliness and comfortable bathtub in our room. During your stay the restaurant is a must-go, my favourite menu in Catalonia for a very good price. Access to the spa was a very pleasant bonus. Thank you. Check-out limit was late, which was also a nice plus.
Our room was big and very clean. The stuff is helpful and friendly. There is a kettle tea and coffee in the room for free. The hotel is a bit far from the city center but metro and bus stations are one or two minutes walking distance. Take the bus H12, get off close to plaza Catalonia and everywhere.
The location is excellent, just a few blocks from Girona's medieval area. There's a nice cocktail lounge on the terrace, excellent buffet breakfast, best so far of all the hotels in this little corner I've stayed in Catalonia. Best of all the amiable and professional staff.
This hotel is really nice, I love it so much and would like to lodge there again whenever I visit the Barcelona/Catalonian region. The housekeepers, receptionists, waiters and waitresses, cooks every one of them knows their job and handled it perfectly.
It was great journey and i like everything about Spain and culture here in Catalonia. Thank you so much, see you soon again :)
One of best hotel in Catalonia! Breakfast, dinner, staff, sweeping pool and spectacular view of the best ❤️
